Heading into the peak holiday season, Spirit Airlines has unveiled the first festive livery aircraft in the carrier’s history. The Airbus A320-200 is adorned in a winter sweater pattern with snowman and gingerbread man designs.
The aircraft, tail number N628NK, is expected to leave the paint shop this week. That’s just in time to spread a little cheer amid the 8,900 projected flights that Spirit plans to fly during the end-of-year travel surge.
Spirit Spreads Holiday Cheer
The airline is just stopping at its first-ever holiday livery. Spirit is also serving its community by sponsoring holiday events and offering customers more premium seating options than ever before. Earlier this year, the airline unveiled a premium airfare option to block out the middle seat and includes a number of other perks like a carry-on bag, no change or cancel fees, Priority Boarding, reserved overhead bin space, a snack, and a non-alcoholic beverage.
Formerly known as “Go Big,” Spirit First includes the “Big Front Seat” which is 21 inches wide with 37 inches of legroom. The Premium Economy seats also have more legroom at 32 inches, but aren’t quite as wide. Free Spirit Status members and Free Spirit credit card holders will enjoy complimentary upgrades to a Big Front Seat and Comfy Seat at boarding, based on availability and status level.
On top of the fresh paint job on N628NK and premium cabin products, the airline sponsored multiple Jingle Ball holiday campaigns. Those include iHeartRadio Y100.7 in Miami, 103.5 KISS FM in Chicago, and 95.5 in Detroit this year. Each station will organize live holiday music performances for their communities to send off 2025 with cheer and kick off 2026 on a high note.
Rana Ghosh, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Spirit Airlines, gave these remarks in the company’s announcement of the new livery and holiday travel forecast:
“We can’t wait to welcome our Guests on board this holiday season and continue connecting them to the people and places they love most in 2026.”
The Busiest Time Of Year
The overall American air travel industry is expecting a record-breaking holiday season, with US airlines collectively estimating that they will carry more than 50 million passengers. Due to the financial hardships that Spirit has experienced in the past year, it is flying only about half as many customers this year, compared to 2024, but it will still be an extremely busy season.
Spirit Airlines expects the busiest time of the holiday travel season to be between December 19, 2025, and January 5, 2026. The airline even provided some statistics trivia to lend context to the scale of the operations that the carrier will perform:
|
Spirit’s Holiday Travel 2025 Stats: |
|
More than 8,900 Spirit flights are scheduled to operate. |
|
The top five busiest Spirit travel days are December 19, 22, 26, January 2, and 5. |
|
More than 3,000 cups of hot chocolate will be available on board. |
|
Spirit flights are scheduled to travel over 8.9 million miles, enough to wrap holiday lights around the Earth more than 350 times. |
Travel demand is strong this year, even as the US air network struggled with air traffic control (ATC) staffing issues and infrastructure problems that threatened to force capacity reductions. Many flyers are bound for classic “snowbird” getaways to sunny and warm destinations like California, Florida, and Las Vegas.

Spirit Airlines has always been a carrier that looks to turn heads, and the liveries are no different.
2025’s Holiday Near-Miss
Just before the Thanksgiving holiday travel rush, the US government managed to avert a major disruption to air travel capacity as the record-breaking 43-day government shutdown was finally resolved. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) anticipated having to reduce capacity at major hubs around the country for Thanksgiving and even Christmas holiday travel by up to 10%. Fortunately, events did not turn out that way, and this year is set to be one of the busiest on record.
With that being said, travelers, this year should anticipate airports will be very busy, and extra prudence when it comes to planning is highly recommended. Arriving at least 2 hours early is a good rule of thumb for domestic flying. Check with your local airports and booked airlines to be sure exactly what the conditions are and follow the guidance that they publish.
