SIA Engineering and Safran to build LEAP engine overhaul facility in Singapore

SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC) and Safran Aircraft Engines have signed a joint venture agreement to set up a full CFM LEAP engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) shop in Singapore.

The deal, announced on June 5, 2026, will see Safran Aircraft Engines hold a 51% equity stake in the joint venture, with SIAEC taking the remaining 49%.

The agreement follows a letter of intent signed in November 2025 to deepen LEAP engine maintenance support in Singapore.

From Quick Turn maintenance to a full engine MRO facility in Singapore

The joint venture will provide MRO services for the LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B, the two variants of the CFM LEAP engine family. The LEAP-1A powers the Airbus A320neo family, while the LEAP-1B powers the Boeing 737 MAX, making this one of the most widely used engine platforms in commercial aviation today.

SIAEC already performs LEAP engine Quick Turn maintenance for Safran at its Aircraft Engine Services facility in Changi North. Those existing operations will be folded into the new joint venture, forming the foundation for a future state-of-the-art engine MRO facility in Singapore. The new shop will expand engine shop visit capacity and offer a broader scope of service as the global LEAP fleet continues to grow.

A partnership seven years in the making

Wong Yue Jeen, Chief Commercial Officer of SIAEC said the joint venture builds on a maintenance services agreement the two companies signed in 2019 and combines Safran’s expertise as an original equipment manufacturer with SIAEC’s MRO capabilities.

“The new LEAP MRO JV strengthens the LEAP maintenance network and enhances SIAEC’s new-generation engine capability to meet global LEAP engine maintenance demand,” Wong said.

Nicolas Potier, Executive Vice President of Support and Services at Safran Aircraft Engines, said the partnership addresses accelerating demand for LEAP maintenance in Asia-Pacific.

“This new MRO facility brings together the expertise of both companies to provide world-class performance and reliable support, helping our airline customers optimize their operations,” he said.
