Porter Airlines Adds 3 New US Routes

Canadian carrier Porter Airlines has announced three new routes to the United States this winter, including flights to two American Airlines hubs in Miami and Phoenix. This is on top of the airline’s first-ever Caribbean destination from Montreal, with flights to Nassau due to launch next February.

Porter recently announced a new codeshare partnership with American Airlines, which will give customers at both airlines greater connectivity between Canada and the US. Although travel between the two nations has been plummeting in recent months, Canada is still the largest source of tourism into the US.

Ahead of its busy 2025-26 winter schedule, Porter has announced a handful of new routes and extra capacity to southern destinations for Canadians escaping the bitter winter cold. Most notably, it will launch three new routes to the US, including its first-ever transborder service from Vancouver (YVR) with a daily flight to Phoenix (PHX) coming in February.

It will also fly to Phoenix out of Ottawa (YOW) in February with three flights per week, and will launch a service from Ottawa to Miami (MIA) starting in late February, also three times weekly. This will bolster Porter’s strong presence in Ottawa and ties in to the carrier’s new codeshare agreement with American Airlines, with Miami and Phoenix among AA’s largest hubs.

The airline’s new Caribbean service out of Montreal will also launch in February with three weekly flights. All routes will be operated by the carrier’s Embraer E195-E2 fleet, which can seat up to 132 passengers in economy. Kevin Jackson, President of Porter Airlines, commented,

“We are committed to bringing our elevated economy experience to more travellers by connecting key gateways with sun destinations at the time of year when these trips are most valued by Canadians. This growth is about offering more choices, more convenience, and the outstanding service our passengers have come to expect from Porter.”

Porter said it would be boosting capacity to its southern destinations by up to 25% at peak times this winter, making the most of demand for sun-filled travel getaways during Canada’s icy winter season.

This will entail adding frequencies to several routes out of Hamilton, Ottawa and Toronto Pearson, including the Cayman Islands, Costa Rica and Mexico.

This summer, Porter announced several new winter sun routes, representing its first-ever non-US international destinations. A total of 13 new routes to five destinations will launch starting in November. With air travel between Canada and the US steadily declining in recent months, the timing of these new routes couldn’t be better.

Porter And American’s Codeshare Partnership

As announced earlier this week, Porter and American will codeshare on select flights starting September 29. American will put its code on select Porter flights from Toronto Pearson – AA says it is the leading US carrier in Toronto, offering over 25 peak daily flights from several US cities.

Porter’s code will be on select transborder and domestic AA flights, as well as destinations in the Caribbean, Central America and South America. The partnership will likely ramp up in the future with more codeshare destinations and possible loyalty benefits.

Unlike rivals Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, American did not have a Canadian codeshare partner until this Porter agreement. Delta has partnered up with WestJet (as well as acquiring a minority stake in the airline), while United and Air Canada have a longstanding alliance.
