European carrier Luxair has celebrated the arrival of its newest Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, and an exciting chapter in the airline’s history. The airline, which plans to utilize these aircraft as part of its fleet modernization strategy, will deploy them on routes across Europe.
The aircraft features a new Luxair livery, which includes a bold design with a modern aesthetic, while also acknowledging the country of Luxembourg’s national identity. The aircraft is configured with 136 seats, in a standard two-by-two layout.
Six New E195-E2 Expected
Luxair signed a firm order for four E195-E2 jets back in 2023; however expanded this commitment last December for an additional two aircraft. This makes the airline set to receive a total of six Brazilian-manufactured aircraft. Luxair, a relatively small airline from Western Europe, looks to write a new chapter with the advanced new airplane, hoping to redefine what it means to fly with Luxair.
The airline is boasting that these aircraft will offer more personal space, with a generous 30-inch seat pitch, and the bonus of no middle seat. The open cabin design will be inviting, while noise levels are expected to be reduced by up to 35%. All sets have a USB-C power outlet on hand to charge your devices.
The most iconic part of the aircraft will be the tail, which depicts the Luxembourgish flag, which has been refreshed and modernised to keep on trend with the airline’s bold ambitions to revolutionize and modernize the carrier. As shared on the airline’s Facebook page, the airline’s Chief Executive Officer, Gilles Feith, noted:
“The arrival of this first Embraer E195-E2 is a decisive step into Luxair’s future (…) strengthening our competitiveness, reducing our environmental impact and enhancing the travel experience for our passengers.”
All Aboard
As the first of six new E195-E2, it is expected that the aircraft will enter commercial service from 2026, reaffirming the airline’s investment in the future of the airline. Connectivity for Luxembourg is key for the small Western European country, which is bordered by Belgium, France, and Germany. From its home at Luxembourg Findel Airport, the airline remains the largest carrier by number of destinations served, with popular routes including Lisbon, Frankfurt, Munich, Amsterdam, and London.
The new airplane includes a modern onboard entertainment system, which will allow passengers to keep occupied during their flight. This is boasted by the carrier to ensure that the journey is more enjoyable, and even feels like the flight is quicker. This will be from their personal device, connected to the airline’s onboard Wi-Fi.
Luxair, the flag carrier of Luxembourg, operates many scheduled services across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Mediterranean. Its IATA code is LG, and it was founded 63 years ago in March 1962. It has adopted the Lufthansa Group Miles & More frequent flyer programme. According to data from ch-aviation, the carrier has a fleet of Boeing 737-700, 737-800, 737 MAX 8, De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400, and now the Embraer E195-E2. The airline also has on order four Boeing 737 MAX 7 and 737 MAX 10.
LX-LEA Delivery Flight Path
The aircraft, which will bear registration LX-LEA (serial number 19020199), according to Flightradar24 departed from São José dos Campos-Professor Urbano Ernesto Stumpf International Airport (SJK) in Brazil on November 28 at 06:36 to complete the two-hour and 32-minute journey to Recife/Guararapes–Gilberto Freyre International Airport (REC), arriving at 09:08 in Recife in the northeastern state of Pernambuco.
From here, the aircraft refueled before crossing the Atlantic Ocean, departing at 11:05 and arriving at Gran Canaria Airport (LPA) at 19:29 after a five-hour and 24-minute non-stop flight. The aircraft remained in the Canary Islands overnight for crew rest, before departing the following morning at 09:13 for a three-hour and 50-minute flight to Luxembourg Findel Airport (LUX), touching down at its new home at 14:02.
Upon arrival in Luxembourg, the aircraft was met with the traditional water salute before attending an event at the Luxair Maintenance Hangar, which included several distinguished representatives from the government, local institutions, the aviation community, and the airline itself.
