Hong Kong flag carrier Cathay Pacific is known for being one of the most luxurious legacy airlines in the Asian market, and its routes to the United States of America are among its most lucrative. This December, currently scheduling data made available by Cirium, an aviation analytics company, shows that Cathay Pacific is operating scheduled flights on six routes between 
Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) and US destinations.
Such is the demand on this lucrative transpacific corridor that all of the flights are served at least daily, with certain routes seeing as many as three departures a day in each direction. Let’s dive deeper into the data to take a closer look at Cathay Pacific’s US network, where it flies Airbus and 
Boeing twinjets.
Two Routes Stand Out
This month, Cathay Pacific is set to operate a grand total of 720 flights on routes to and from the US. 186 of these can be found between Hong Kong and New York JFK, with 93 flights in each direction representing a thrice-daily schedule. These round trips are split between 49 with the Airbus A350-1000, 31 with the Boeing 777-300ER, and 13 with the A350-900. This is also Cathay’s second-longest US route, at 8,070 miles (12,987.4 km).
Elsewhere, Los Angeles (LAX) sees almost an identical frequency, with 90 flights in each direction this month and three rotations on the vast majority of days. The only exceptions came on December 1, 3, and 5, when this frequency dropped to two. All of these flights are served by the same aircraft type, namely the Boeing 777-300ER. Next year, Cathay Pacific will add another US destination to its roster in the form of Seattle (SEA), and it says:
“This route not only provides greater convenience for our customers, but also supports the growing demand for connectivity between Asia and North America, particularly among travellers from the Chinese Mainland and India.”
San Francisco Isn’t Far Behind In Terms Of Frequency
Elsewhere on the West Coast of the United States of America, 
San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is Cathay Pacific’s third most popular US destination by frequency, with 84 flights scheduled in each direction this December. Day to day, this represents either two or three flights in each direction.
This transpacific route clocks in at a distance of 6,927 miles (11,147.9 km), and passengers can expect block times in the region of 12 hours flying eastbound from Hong Kong to San Francisco, but more than 15 hours flying westbound from San Francisco back to Hong Kong. Coverage on this route is split between the Airbus A350-900 and the Boeing 777-300ER, with these models respectively accounting for 53 and 31 flights each way.
Cathay Pacific does not have a monopoly on the route from Hong Kong International Airport to San Francisco. Indeed, it also faces American competition from United Airlines, for whom San Francisco International Airport is a key West Coast hub. Their combined presence made Hong Kong San Francisco’s sixth most popular international destination by passengers carried according to BTS data, up three places from ninth in 2023.

Three more American airports will see daily service from Cathay Pacific this month, with the most distant being Dallas/Fort Worth International (DFW) in the US federal state of Texas. This key oneworld hub, which the Hong Kong flag carrier’s alliance partner American Airlines calls its home, is 8,120 miles (13,212.7 km) from Hong Kong, with flights taking over 16 hours flying from DFW to HKG. All of these services use the Airbus A350-1000.
The two other US destinations that Cathay Pacific’s lavishly outfitted Airbus A350-1000s will serve on a daily basis this month are Boston Logan (BOS) and Chicago O’Hare (ORD). According to aeroLOPA, these aircraft have 46 business class flatbeds, 32 premium economy recliners, and 256 economy seats on board, with these cabins respectively arranged with four (1-2-1), eight (2-4-2), and nine (3-3-3) seats in every standard row.
