IndiGo contests claim of failing to use qualified simulators for Cat C airports

India’s largest airline, IndiGo, is contesting an order from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) claiming that it failed to use qualified simulators for pilot training.

On October 8, 2025, IndiGo issued a filling to the National Stock Exchange of India indicating that the airline had been fined Rs 20 lakh ($24,100).

The airline said the violation centered around the “alleged failure to use qualified simulators for pilot training at Category C Aerodromes”.

Only experienced pilots who have had specific simulator training can land at Category C Aerodromes due to additional complexities such as the layout.

In the filing, IndiGo said that the carrier is in the process of contesting the order before the “appropriate appellate authority”.

“There is no material impact on financials, operations or other activities of the Company,” the airline added.

The airline also apologized for not disclosing the order earlier, having received the DCGA penalty on September 28, 2025.

“The delay in disclosure was unintentional and was caused due to a delay in internal communication of details pertaining to the order,” explained IndiGo.

According to mint, in August 2025 IndiGo received a show-cause notice from the DCGA over allegations that there had been lapses in simulator training of nearly 1,700 pilots.
