The
Dubai Airshow 2025 is turning out to be a busy one for local carrier
flydubai. Indeed, having put its name down for at least 150 Airbus A321neos and revealed that it will be featuring a premium economy cabin on its incoming Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet, the airline has continued to make waves by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Boeing for another 75 737 MAX jets. The deal also features options for 75 more.
This announcement paves the way for considerable future growth on the world stage, not just for flydubai as an airline itself but, indeed, for the Emirate of Dubai as a whole. The MoU was signed at the airshow by flydubai Chair Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum and Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stephanie Pope, with Ghaith Al Ghaith, the Chief Executive Officer of the growing Middle Eastern Airline, also present.
The Current State Of flydubai’s Fleet
Wednesday, November 19th, 5:00 am EST | 2:00 pm Local
According to present fleet data made available by ch-aviation, flydubai currently has a grand total of 96 aircraft at its disposal. This figure is split between 26 Boeing 737-800s aged 10.8 years old on average (it has also historically flown another 35 examples), 67 737 MAX 8s aged 3.6 years old on average, and three 737 MAX 9s aged seven years old on average. Unsurprisingly, it also has big plans as far as its orders are concerned.
Indeed, the carrier is still expecting to receive another 108 737 MAX 8s, nine 737 MAX 9s, and 30 787-9 Dreamliners. The latter design will be its first widebody aircraft, and the carrier revealed today that it will feature a three-class configuration including a premium economy cabin. In addition to today’s MoU for another 75 737 MAX jets and options for 75 more, flydubai also signed an MoU for 150 Airbus A321neos (plus 100 options) this week.
The Deal Will Help Both The Airline & Dubai As A Whole To Grow

The presence of at least 75, but potentially as many as 150, new jets from the
Boeing 737 MAX series will help to foster further growth at flydubai, a carrier that has already come a long way in a relatively short space of time. Stephanie Pope welcomed her company’s role in this expansion, saying that “we are proud that Boeing airplanes will continue to serve as the backbone of flydubai’s strategic fleet and growth plans.”
For flydubai Chair Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the deal doesn’t just represent a chance for his airline to grow, but also for further growth on the world stage when it comes to the Emirate of Dubai as a whole. The expansion of Dubai World Central Airport (DWC) looks set to play a key part in this growth.
Indeed, flydubai is touted as being among the first carriers set to shift its operations over to DWC from its existing base at Dubai Airport (DXB), and its growing fleet will help the airport, and Dubai as a whole, to blossom. Al Maktoum thanked his team, saying that “their efforts, combined with Dubai’s ambitious vision, fuel our optimism and enthusiasm for what lies ahead, including playing a key role in Dubai World Central’s expansion plans.”

flydubai Puts Its Name Down For 75 More Boeing 737 MAX Jets
Wednesday, November 19th, 4:45 am EST | 1:45 pm Local
The UAE-based government-owned airline and
Emirates partner flydubai has continued to make headlines on the third day of the 2025 Dubai Airshow by penning an MoU with Boeing for another 75 aircraft from the 737 MAX family in a deal that is said to be worth some $13 billion. The agreement also features options for 75 more of the next-generation narrowbodies, meaning that the total order could eventually stretch to 150.
The planned order that the MoU represents will mark, as Stephanie Pope noted, flydubai’s “fourth 737 order to date.” These transactions date back to the 2008 Farnborough Airshow, when it bought 50 737NG series jets from Boeing. Since then, it has also placed second and third 737 orders for 75 737 MAX and 11 737NG jets in 2013 and 225 737 MAX jets in 2017 (both in Dubai). Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum welcomed the MoU, explaining:
“We are pleased to announce a new agreement with Boeing. Looking ahead, proactive fleet planning is essential to ensuring we are well-placed to meet the rising demand for travel.”
