China Airlines has unveiled a new livery featuring popular Disney animated characters from the upcoming film Zootopia 2. This marks Taiwan’s first Disney-themed Boeing 777, which is scheduled to make its debut flight on November 19, 2025.
The aircraft will retain its corporate identity while featuring four Zootopia 2 characters on its fuselage, along with the movie’s title written in traditional Chinese. The animated film Zootopia 2 is set to hit theaters across Taiwan on November 26, one week after the carrier’s debut flight.
Zootopia-Themed Boeing 777 Route Network
The airline’s Boeing 777, sporting its new Disney-themed livery, will depart from Taipei Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) on flight CI6 to
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in the United States. Passengers on this 11-hour transpacific flight will enjoy a “one-of-a-kind Disney experience in the sky,” with characters from Zootopia 2, from check-in to the onboard service.
After the debut flight to Los Angeles using the Disney-themed Boeing 777-300, the Taiwanese flag carrier will deploy this widebody aircraft on routes connecting Taipei with Bangkok (BKK), Ontario (ONT), Tokyo (HND), Phoenix (PHX, from December) and Osaka (KIX). According to the airline, these flights will also feature special onboard services, with the film’s new characters, including Gary Sherman and Beaver Libo joining the design, along with Flash, making a return appearance.
To celebrate the inaugural flight of the Zootopia 2-themed aircraft, China Airlines has launched special promotions on its website. Discounted fares will be available for routes to Los Angeles, Ontario, and other destinations (excluding tax):
Taipei–Los Angeles economy class round-trip: from TWD 18,225 ($592)
Taipei–Ontario economy class round-trip: from TWD 19,035 ($619)
Taipei–Phoenix economy class round-trip: from TWD 21,465 ($698)
Taipei–Los Angeles premium economy round-trip: from TWD 47,314 ($1,538)
Taipei–Ontario premium economy round-trip: from TWD 48,544 ($1,578)
Taipei–Phoenix premium economy round-trip: from TWD 54,400 ($1,769)
According to ch-aviation data, China Airlines currently operates a total of ten Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, with an average age of 10.5 years. None of these jets are currently painted in a special livery, making this the only Boeing 777 (registration B-10855) in the fleet to feature a unique design.
While there are no other specially themed Boeing 777s, China Airlines does have another aircraft featuring a popular animated series. The Taiwanese airline unveiled its first Pikachu livery on September 30, 2022, on an Airbus A321neo, registered as B-18101. Interestingly, this “Pikachu Jet CI” was the first Pokémon-themed livery on an Airbus aircraft and made China Airlines the second non-Japanese airline to introduce a Pokémon Jet.
It is worth noting that the Pikachu-themed Airbus A321neo narrowbody is primarily operated on routes between Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH) and Tokyo Narita (NRT), as well as between Kaohsiung and Hong Kong International Airport (HKG).
Taipei-Phoenix Route To Start In December 2025
Thrice-weekly non-stop flights between Phoenix and Taipei are set to take off, with China Airlines beginning the service from December 3, 2025. And the good news, the special livery Boeing 777 will also operate on this route. This news, for the city of Phoenix, comes as China Airlines’ rival Starlux also plans its own services to the city.
China Airlines had already announced back in July its intentions to commence direct services between Taipei Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX). These services, which were to be direct on the outbound, were to incur one stop on the return, touching down at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) for two hours and 30 minutes, adding extra time to the overall flight duration.
The latest news, where China Airlines will eliminate the Los Angeles layover, is undoubtedly going to appeal better for the international traveler, and will complement the other direct services the airline already operates to North America, including New York, Los Angeles, Ontario, San Francisco, Seattle, and Vancouver.
