Boeing is studying raising production of its cash-cow 737 family to a 70-jet monthly rate, although it hasn’t yet made any firm plans to do so, CEO Kelly Ortberg said Friday, confirming a report by The Air Current.
“So we’re always looking at further rates. I think right now 63 is our plan,” Ortberg told CNBC, when asked about the potential new manufacturing target for the 737. “We’ll look at that to understand where our constraints are, what the resilience is of the supply chain, but that’s a study activity right now.”
Boosting its manufacturing output and deliveries to the higher target would bring Boeing close to Airbus’s goal of making 75 of its A320 family jets a month by late 2027, a target the European manufacturer has repeatedly pushed back as it battles production constraints ranging from late engine deliveries to flawed aluminum fuselage panels.
