Few aircraft have captured the imagination of travelers quite like the Airbus A380. The world’s largest passenger jet, with its double‑deck design and capacity for over 500 passengers, was meant to redefine long‑haul travel. Yet despite its prestige and popularity among passengers, one glaring fact stands out: no US airlineever ordered or operated the Airbus A380. This absence is striking given that the United States is home to the world’s largest aviation market and some of the most globally recognized carriers. Why did American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines, the “Big Three”, all pass on the A380? In…
India’s Civil Aviation Minister, Ram Mohan Naidu, has denied any manipulation in the investigation of Air India Flight 171. This comes more than a month after the father of the flight’s captain alleged that authorities released only selective information from the probe into the crash, which claimed 241 of the 242 lives on board. In an email to the Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP), the 91-year-old Pushkar Raj Sabharwal complained that investigators had selectively released information, resulting in unfounded speculation surrounding the conduct of his late son, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal. He further stated that officials from India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation…
It’s interesting to see the increasing trend of luxury hotel groups launching cruise lines, or perhaps more accurately, licensing out their names to partner on new cruising concepts. For example, a few years back we saw the launch of Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, and in 2026, we’re supposed to see the launch of Four Seasons Yachts. We’re now potentially just 18 or so months from the launch of yet another interesting uber-luxury cruise line. The details of this were first announced in 2023, but this is closer to becoming a reality, so we’ve also learned more details. Luxury hotel group Aman…
Big changes are coming to Icelandair’s long-haul Airbus A321LR network. According to the carrier’s recent schedule update for the peak summer of 2026, the single-aisle equipment’s US offer will see flights to Newark, New York JFK, Orlando, and Portland. In contrast, it was used on up to three daily flights to Seattle in the peak summer of 2025. Ch-aviation shows that Icelandair now has four LRs. However, the carrier recently announced that two additional frames will be leased. Each aircraft has 187 seats, comprising 22 in business class and 165 in economy class. It is the airline’s highest-capacity narrowbody. The…
Sikorsky has introduced a new family of vertical take-off and landing drones called Nomad, expanding its work on autonomous, long-range aircraft that can operate from land or sea without a runway. The announcement came on October 6, 2025, less than a year after the company proved the flight performance of its experimental rotor-blown wing prototype. Sikorsky, a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin, said the Nomad design combines the agility of a helicopter with the efficiency of a fixed-wing airplane. Each Nomad aircraft uses a twin-proprotor configuration that allows it to take off, hover, and land vertically before transitioning to wing-borne flight…
Few names evoke the scale of US cargo power projection more than the LockheedC-5 Galaxy and BoeingC-17 Globemaster III. These two behemoths have carried the weight of US global logistics for decades, delivering tanks, helicopters, humanitarian aid, and other essential goods across continents. In 2025, they are still mainstays of strategic airlift, but they do so in markedly different ways. One prioritizes sheer cargo volume and range; the other prioritizes flexibility, agility, and access to austere fields. In our guide exploration, we’ll compare how the Globemaster and Galaxy stack up today, with numbers, stories, and surprising facts, to see what…
The Irish Air Corps received its third and last Airbus C295 aircraft at Casement Aerodrome on October 7, 2025. This delivery completes a €300 million program to upgrade Ireland’s transport and maritime patrol capacity, the largest single equipment procurement in the history of the Irish Defence Forces. If you ask me, or anyone who is even borderline objective, United Airlines has by far the most interesting route network of any US carrier (United flies to the most destinations and most countries of any US carrier), and the airline keeps expanding. In recent years, United has made a game of allowing the public to guess new routes, and I sure enjoy playing along. Here’s the latest example of that, as the airline seems to be planning a big route announcement tomorrow. United plans to announce new international routes At 8AM ET on Thursday, October 9, 2025, United will…
The CEO of TAP Air Portugal, Luis Rodrigues, said at an event in Lisbon that the soon-to-be-privatized national airline is prepared for bullish growth in Brazil and Africa. The airline already flies to 13 Brazilian cities and 14 African destinations, including cities across Portuguese-speaking nations on both continents. Large markets for the company include Angola and Mozambique. Rodrigues cited Brazil’s huge opportunity, with a tourism market that accounts for around 6% of GDP, as opposed to 16% of Portugal’s GDP. Africa also offers immense potential despite some constraints. The airline’s geographic balance across North America, South America, Europe, and Africa…
Wizz Air plans to expand its operations from Wrocław Airport (WRO) in Poland, adding three entirely new destinations and increasing frequencies on three existing routes. The new destinations from Wrocław will be the cities of Reykjavik, Dortmund, and Varna. Additionally, the low-cost carrier will enhance the frequency of its routes to Barcelona, Bari, Tirana, and Malaga, Wizz Air said in a statement on October 8, 2025. Flights to Varna will commence on June 15, 2026, operating twice a week, while flights to Reykjavik will start the following day with three weekly flights. The service to Dortmund is set to begin…
