Boeing is advancing its vision for a new class of unmanned tiltrotor aircraft designed to operate alongside crewed platforms in attack, reconnaissance, and logistics roles. The concept, called CxR (Collaborative Transformational Rotorcraft), was first revealed by Aviation Week, Breaking Defense, and The War Zone, which covered remarks from Boeing engineers during a media briefing ahead of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) 2025 Annual Meeting and Exposition, held October 13-15 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. Boeing has not issued a formal press release, but engineers told reporters the aircraft is meant to be a…
Now, AeroVironment is preparing to expand its ability to produce the Switchblade and is working on new ways to launch and control it — including from an MQ-9 Reaper drone.Brian Young, the AeroVironment executive who oversees the Switchblade program, said Monday the company wants to be ready as the U.S. Army accelerates its own loitering munitions capability through the Low Altitude Stalking and Strike Ordnance, or LASSO, program.“You’re going to see a lot of shift toward that [LASSO] program in terms of the technologies, and then also the scale,” Young, AeroVironment’s vice president of loitering munitions, said at the Association…
As a dog lover, I can’t help but find this to be very cute, though admittedly it’s a bit controversial… Traveler finds “hack” to avoid putting dog in carrier on plane A self-proclaimed “dog content creator” on Instagram posted a video a couple of days ago, which has since gone viral, and has been viewed millions of times. In the video, he can be seen flying United first class, with his dog in his lap. For what it’s worth, his dog, Piper, is 19 years old, and is blind and deaf. As a dog lover, huge credit to this guy…
Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines have been progressing through their integration for more than a year. The two carriers finalized their merger in September 2024, and since then, significant steps have been taken toward full integration. This summer, the US Department of Transportation approved Alaska Airlines and its parent company, Alaska Air Group, which also owns regional carrier Horizon Air, to assume Hawaiian Airlines’ operating certificates, international services, and codeshare approvals. Hawaiian has also begun integrating its fleet with Alaska Airlines, introducing a new Alaskan look on Hawaiian’s Boeing 787s. One of the more symbolic changes now underway is the…
The Swedish Armed Forces is set to receive their first Saab JAS 39 Gripen E fighter jets on October 20, 2025, during a formal handover ceremony at Skaraborg Air Wing (F 7) in Såtenäs, marking a major milestone in Sweden’s long-term defense modernization. Its ambitious growth plan targets a total of 125 destinations by the end of the decade. Etihad’s growth is being fueled by increases to its fleet, which now surpasses 100 aircraft. It expects to have more than 20 new aircraft delivered in 2025, including its first examples of the Airbus A321LR. This has…
The airline industry is projected to lose over $11 billion during 2025 due to slow aircraft production, with supply chain issues forcing airlines to keep older planes operational, according to a new International Air Transport Association (IATA) report. In a joint study, released on October 13, 2025, by IATA together with international management consulting firm Oliver Wyman, the association noted that these supply chain issues are causing airlines to reevaluate their fleet strategies, often resulting in the prolonged use of older aircraft. “Today’s aircraft fleet is larger, more advanced, and more fuel efficient than ever before,” said Matthew Poitras, Partner in Oliver…
No more relying on the U.S. Army to protect the Air Force’s air bases — it’s time for the Air Force to take responsibility to defend its own airfields, argues an Air Force officer.“The Air Force is doctrinally responsible for its own force protection,” wrote Lt. Col. Phil Ferris, an airpower strategist on the Air Staff, in a recent essay for the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies. Currently, “the Air Force’s only current active defense option” comes from its own fighter aircraft. But that’s not feasible in many cases, Ferris argues.“Many air bases do not have fighters on station, including many…
