An OMAAT reader asked me about a situation he faced where he missed a flight due to excessively long security lines, only to then be forced to buy a new ticket. Is there really no recourse in these situations?! Let’s take a look. Long Lisbon security lines cause missed TAP flight An OMAAT reader shared the following experience with me, about a recent transit at Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS): I wanted to share an interesting thing that recently happened to me at the Lisbon Airport. I’m not sure if I did something wrong, TAP did something wrong, or it’s…
US President Donald Trump’s fiscal 2027 budget proposal takes aim at the Essential Air Service program, calling for a $372 million reduction in discretionary funding while arguing the long-running subsidy system has drifted far from its original purpose. The White House budget, released April 3, 2026, says EAS now sends taxpayer money to support “half-empty flights” between airports that are often close to one another and says program spending more than doubled between 2021 and 2025. The administration is not proposing to eliminate the program outright. Instead, the budget says it would “rein in” EAS subsidies through a mix of…
A US Air Force A-10 was hit during combat operations tied to the widening war with Iran on April 3, 2026, with the pilot ejecting and later being rescued, according to multiple reports citing US officials. The incident unfolded as American forces were already mounting a search-and-rescue mission for the crew of an F-15E Strike Eagle shot down over Iran the same day. CBS News reported that the A-10 was part of the rescue effort when it took fire and was damaged. According to US officials cited by CBS, the pilot ejected over the Persian Gulf and was successfully recovered.…
Covered List Exempts ‘Trusted’ Drones From National Security-Related Import Sale And Restrictions The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) updated its covered list to remove four uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) determined by the Department of War (DoW) to not pose national security risks. The four systems removed from the list are the SiFly Aviation Q12, the Mobilicom SkyHopper Series and associated components, the ScoutDI Scout 137 and the Verge X1. Last year, following an interagency determination of unacceptable national security risks, the FCC added all UAS and UAS-critical components produced in foreign countries to the covered list, preventing them from getting approval…
Circle-To-Land Maneuver A maneuver initiated by the pilot to align the aircraft with a runway for landing when a straight?in landing from an instrument approach is not possible or is not desirable. At tower controlled airports, this maneuver is made only after ATC authorization has been obtained and the pilot has established required visual reference to the airport.
…Elevated Carbon Monoxide Levels In The Cockpit And A Forced Landing To Unsuitable Terrain After The Pilot Suspected Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Analysis: During cruise flight in a gradual descent, the airplane’s two carbon monoxide (CO) detectors began alerting. The pilot closed the cabin panel vent and opened a small cockpit window and 4 overhead vents. The pilot’s concern “turned to intense worry and fear as [he] noticed a feeling of lethargy and confusion, sort of slow motion coupled with graying peripheral vision.” He attempted to open the cabin door but was unsuccessful. The pilot decided not to continue the flight…
From 2024 (YouTube Edition): Clinic Aimed to Promote Safe Aircraft Control The EAA Pilot Proficiency Center hosted an angle of attack (AOA) training clinic during the 2024 Oshkosh Airventure. The event aimed to teach attendees about what AOA indicators are and how they can be used to improve flight safety. AOA indicators have been around from the beginning. Even the Wright brothers had their own makeshift version: a piece of yarn fastened to the leading edge of the wing. As flight has grown more advanced, aviators realized how crucial AOA indicators are and began to install them in modern aircraft.…

I don’t think it’s terribly surprising that this is something that President Trump is planning, but it’ll still be interesting to see how it ends up being executed. Trump’s 2027 budget plans include privatizing the TSA The White House has today released its 2027 budget proposal. The 90+ page document contains lots of details, but from a travel perspective, here’s one that stands out the most. In 2027, the Trump administration is looking to cut $52 million in costs by starting the process of privatizing the TSA. The idea is that TSA privatization efforts would begin by requiring small airports…
