Norway is set to take legal action against NHIndustries (NHI) following a failed mediation over the troubled NH90 helicopter program. Oslo is now demanding compensation worth six times the original contract value, marking one of the largest claims ever lodged against a European defense manufacturer. A troubled program from the start In 2001, Norway ordered 14 NH90 helicopters through the NATO Helicopter Management Agency (NAHEMA) at a cost of around five billion Norwegian kroner (approximately €500 million at the time). Built by NHIndustries, a consortium of Airbus Helicopters, Leonardo, and Fokker, the aircraft were intended for anti-submarine warfare, search and…

Modern airplanes are constructed with more than just nuts and bolts. In addition to traditional fasteners such as these, they often feature lock bolts. Lock bolts are two-piece fasteners consisting of a pin and collar. The pin is a bolt-like cylindrical component, whereas the collar is a nut-like component that wraps around the pin. During installation, the collar is swaged onto the exposed end of the pin. Below are five key benefits of lock bolts. #1) High Tensile Strength Lock bolts are known for their high tensile strength. Research shows that the tensile strength of lock bolts is about 20%…
At the heart of Saudi Arabia’s bid to become a regional defense and aerospace power is Vision 2030, a sweeping national plan to diversify the economy and build domestic industries. A cornerstone of this vision is an ambitious target: to localize over 50% of military procurement by 2030. In practical terms, the Kingdom aims to shift from purchasing defense equipment from abroad to producing and maintaining it domestically. The World Defense Show, founded by the General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI), has become a strategic platform to help meet that target. It functions not just as an exhibition, but as…

Spirit Airlines, in an effort to downsize, has recently announced that it would reject new aircraft as part of a larger restructuring plan. The agreement, reached with Irish leasing company AerCap, would see the lessor pay Spirit $150 million while Spirit rejects 27 new Airbus aircraft. Additionally, Spirit is canceling airport leases and ground handling agreements. It’s no secret that Spirit Airlines has been experiencing significant financial turmoil over the past several years. This came to a head earlier this year when the carrier filed for bankruptcy, and then it filed for bankruptcy again in August. The company is framing…

Operating costs skyrocketed for the airlines as scores or aircraft sat on taxiways waiting to take…
