Before I get into this post, let me state that I have a lot of respect for flight attendants. A majority of them do a great job, and they work long and hard hours, dealing with a lot of complicated passengers, and often they’re not well paid. So I don’t want to in any way diminish what they do to keep the industry running. That being said, in this post I’d like to talk more broadly about the normalization of really rude flight attendant behavior, brought to mind by an email I received from a reader. Admittedly a small minority…
German authorities have deployed a laser installation at Munich Airport (MUC) following multiple drone sightings at the facility since the start of the month. The hub is one of several across Europe to have faced operational disruption of this nature in recent times, including multiple days last week. Now, those responsible for protecting Munich Airport are hoping that the newly-deployed laser installation at the Bavarian hub will be able to prevent further reoccurrences, or minimize disruption in the event that the drone issues rear their ugly head once again. Let’s take a closer look at the situation. Multiple Days Of…
Wizz Air intends to conclude the engine-related grounding of its Airbus aircraft by the end of 2027, but has not yet seen any improvement in the Pratt & Whitney supply issues that have kept dozens of its jets out of active service, the airline’s Chief Financial Officer Ian Malin has said. Speaking at the International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading (ISTAT) conference in Prague, Malin noted that the number of Wizz Air aircraft grounded, due to prolonged waiting times for inspections and repairs of Pratt & Whitney’s geared turbofan (GTF) engines, has decreased to 38 from a peak of nearly…
Wow. At first glance we thought this severely damaged CRJ900 was a write-off – a jet not worth repairing. However, despite the dramatic appearance of the damage, it has proven to indeed be repairable!source
A series of newly leaked documents, allegedly originating from Russia’s state defense conglomerate Rostec, appears to confirm that Algeria has placed orders for both Su-57E fifth-generation fighters and Su-34 tactical bombers, shedding light on how Moscow continues to navigate export deals under international sanctions. Algeria poised to become first Su-57E export customer The data, published by the hacker collective Black Mirror, reportedly includes more than 300 files detailing Russia’s defense-industrial cooperation, pricing grids and financial workarounds to sustain exports. The documents refer to Algeria under the code ‘012’ and outline deliveries of 12 Su-57E Felon and 14 Su-34 Fullback aircraft…
Earlier this year, we learned how authorities in Kyoto were considering greatly increasing taxes on the most expensive hotels in the city, in order to discourage overtourism. This concept has now been given final approval, and will be implemented as of March 1, 2026. Kyoto will add $130+ nightly tax for luxury hotels While Kyoto has long been popular with international tourists, it has really exploded in recent years, and at this point we’re seeing just about every major luxury hotel group open a property there. As it currently stands, hotel rates in Kyoto have a nightly consumption tax of…
On modern widebody commercial aircraft, premium economy seating generally takes the form of spacious recliners that offer passengers extra legroom and width without them having to pay for all the bells and whistles of a lie-flat bed in first or business class. However, Thai Airways is taking a new angle. Indeed, the Asian carrier recently announced that, as of the end of this month, lie-flat premium economy seating will be available on some of its flights to and from a handful of destinations located in Asia. Thai Airways is taking advantage of recent acquisitions to offer this with minimal cabin…
A medical helicopter crashed on the main highway in Sacramento, California, on the evening of October 6, 2025, leaving all three crew members critically injured. The Sacramento Fire Department confirmed in a statement that the Airbus H130 helicopter, registered as N414RX, went down shortly after taking off from UC Davis Med Center at approximately 19:00 local time on eastbound Highway 50, just west of 59th Street in Sacramento. When emergency crews arrived, they found three victims, all…
Over the years, we’ve see the increasing trend of hotels charging junk fees. We’re not just talking about luxury properties charging resort or destination fees, but even things like security fees, electricity fees, and more. Well, OMAAT reader Susan just shared a fee situation she faced at a Marriott affiliated property, which I’d consider to be particularly egregious, given how dishonestly it’s presented. Marriott charges all guests $2.87 “city fee,” for parking?Susan reached out after recently staying at the Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Dallas Plano/Frisco. The property is in a suburban area, right next to a huge shopping…
