Several airports across the United States are experiencing disruptions as air traffic controllers, who are currently working unpaid, face increased pressure due to the ongoing US government shutdown. The shutdown has almost reached its seventh day after federal budget talks between Congress and US President Donald Trump broke down over Democrat healthcare funding demands. The shutdown has put FAA operations under pressure, resulting in over 13,000 air traffic controllers and essential staff working without pay, while the agency’s routine functions such as rulemaking, background checks, and facility upgrades remain on pause. Widespread airport disruptions California Governor Gavin Newsom…
Just a few days ago, two Delta Connection Bombardier CRJ900 regional planes collided on the tarmac at New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA). The low-speed collision is just the latest incident to punctuate a troubled operational history for the airframe with Delta Air Line’s subsidiary carriers. Flying for Endeavor Air and other regional operators, the CRJ900s in service with Delta have been in the headlines on a number of occasions but for all the wrong reasons. Cabin pressure loss, smoke detector alarms, and wing strikes have plagued Delta’s small jet fleet over the past several months. The aircraft serve a critical…
The Airbus A320 has surpassed the Boeing 737 as the most delivered commercial aircraft in history upon Saudi airline Flynas receiving the European manufacturer’s 12,260th jet. According to a Reuters report on October 7, 2025, data from industry analysts Cirium shows that the A320 in question was delivered overnight, giving Airbus a slight lead over Boeing’s 737. The A320 model includes the A318, A319, A320 and A321 aircraft, while the Boeing 737 includes the original 737-100 and 737-200, right up to the current MAX jets. OMAAT reader James asked if I’ve ever written about my approach to travel insurance. As he asked, “not sure if you ever buy it sporadically or have an annual policy, but you’ve been to some pretty far flung places, and I’m curious how you protect yourself and your family when you travel.” Well, I don’t think I’ve ever addressed this in a post before, but I have a confession to make… and I hope to learn something from the comments section of this post! I don’t typically buy any sort of travel insurance I don’t think I’ve ever deliberately purchased…
According to reports, an 85-year-old Southern California cardiologist, Asoka Jayaweera, died while onboard a Qatar Airways flight from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Doha Hamad International Airport (DOH). Allegations indicate that he was not provided with a vegetarian meal that he pre-ordered, and flight attendants were not concerned by this matter, reportedly telling him to “eat around” the meat in a regular meal. He then began choking and later died as a result, with family members citing aspiration pneumonia as the ultimate cause. A wrongful death suit has been filed and claims that the captain refused to divert as…

The F-35 Lightning II stealth fighter program of the US Armed Forces recently got an unwelcome update. Lot 18 and 19 contracts for the F-35’s F135 engines have been delayed six months to early 2026. The fifth-generation fighter developed by Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works division has revolutionized the air power of the US Air Force, US Navy, US Marines, and a growing list of 19 allied nations. However, its bloated cost combined with performance below promise has brought harsh criticism. Over Budget & Behind Schedule Credit: US Air Force Raytheon-owned Pratt & Whitney makes the immensely powerful F135 afterburning turbofan engine…

We will go down the list of the absolute longest flights from SeaTac scheduled between January 1, 2025, to January 1, 2026. Thanks to data from Cirium.com, we break it down by carrier, aircraft, as well as distance. So let’s get down…
The Pentagon has reportedly approved plans for the US Navy’s next-generation carrier-based stealth fighter, paving the way for the service to select between Boeing and Northrop Grumman to develop the jet known as F/A-XX. The new fighter will replace the Navy’s aging fleet of F/A-18E/F Super Hornets, which have been in service for decades. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth personally signed off on advancing the program last week, US officials told Reuters. The Navy could announce its choice of a program winner as soon as this week, marking the culmination of years of design work under the service’s Next Generation Air Dominance…
