I hope everyone is having a nice weekend so far! I’m enjoying spending time with family, before heading off on my review trip soon, which I’m looking forward to as well! On the points & travel front, this week Alaska’s new Rome flight went on sale, some TSA agents got a $10K bonus for their work during the shutdown, Virgin Atlantic introduced a new reward for long term loyalty, LOT Polish Airlines added San Francisco flights, Beond Airlines announced a (possible) global expansion, and more. With that out of the way, here’s a recap of this week on the blog:…
Blue Islands, the Jersey- and Guernsey-based regional airline, has elected to suspend operations with immediate effect after about 26 years of serving the Channel Islands. The ATR 72 operator has grounded its fleet and canceled all flights from November 14, 2025, after the Government of Jersey decided it could no longer provide the financing needed to support these low-demand routes. The shutdown leaves thousands of overall bookings in limbo, and it removes a key lifeline carrier linking Jersey and Guernsey with cities such as Bristol, Exeter, East Midlands, and Southampton. Coming just a few weeks after the collapse of fellow…

Singapore Airlines Group has reported a fall in profits over the first half of FY2025, driven by losses at Indian national carrier Air India, in which SIA Group holds a 25% stake. The company also cited lower interest income and stronger competition driving down yields, which led to a year-on-year drop in net profit from $742 million to $239 million, representing a 67% reduction. The airline began accounting for Air India’s earnings in its own results after Vistara, in which SIA held a 49% stake, was merged into Air India in late 2024. While the Airbus A220 is widely regarded as a success today, the aircraft’s early years were defined by headwinds rather than momentum. Originally introduced by Bombardier in the early 2010s as the CSeries, the program struggled to gain traction and attract orders, challenges that were compounded by US tariffs imposed at Boeing’s request in 2017. Airbus later acquired a majority stake in the program, rebranding it as the A220 and revitalizing its prospects. Since then, the aircraft has become a commercial success, with numerous airlines around the world operating the type. The A220 family includes two variants: the -100 and…
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has widened its emergency response to a serious engine pylon issue that was first uncovered on the MD-11 freighter fleet. Days after grounding the McDonnell Douglas MD-11F for urgent inspections following the tragic and ultimately fatal crash of UPS Airlines Flight 2976 in Louisville, aerospace regulators in the United States have now expanded the same emergency airworthiness directive to include the older Douglas DC-10 variants. The move reflects mounting concerns that common design features in the engine pylon structure could expose Douglas DC-10s to the same risk of engine-pylon separation seen on the UPS flight…
The Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 are two of the most recognizable widebodies of the modern aviation era. Blending the latest advances in aviation technology, passenger comfort, and airline economics, these two aircraft types have become the backbone and future of many airlines’ fleets worldwide. Utilized primarily on ultra long-haul and long-haul routes, but also scheduled on some short- to medium-haul routes, these two aircraft have set themselves as a benchmark for efficiency, reliability, and overall quality in aviation. Both aircraft have a heavy focus on passenger comfort. When we think of aircraft comfort, we generally think about the primary…
Owner of the world’s largest airliner fleet, United Airlines (UA) boasts 22 examples of Boeing’s enormous 777-300ER (extended range) widebody jet. The long-haul twinjet is the highest-capacity aircraft in the 1,055-plane-strong fleet. It is also one of the longest-range jetliners that United currently flies, with all of its routes being transcontinental or transoceanic. Even though the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a newer design, the United 777-300ERs are only one year older on average, according to Planespotters.net data. Despite being a previous generation, the aircraft is still one of the most luxurious and comfortable ways to travel by air in 2025.…
“All Air Traffic Controllers must get back to work, NOW!!! Anyone who doesn’t will be substantially ‘docked. For those Air Traffic Controllers who were GREAT PATRIOTS, and didn’t take ANY TIME OFF for the ‘Democrat Shutdown Hoax,’ I will be recommending a BONUS of $10,000 per person for distinguished service to our Country.” Source: A social media post from president Trump, in part scolding air traffic controllers who had stopped reporting to work, saying he was “NOT HAPPY” with their behavior.
