In this post, I’d like to talk a bit about how my experience traveling, and even living in hotels, has informed my decision of where to live. I call Miami home, and people often contact me when they’re thinking of moving here to ask my take. So let me share my philosophy more broadly, and then I’ll share my specific thoughts on Miami. This is partly prompted by Chris, who yesterday left a comment saying “I would love a post on your opinion on the best and worst things about living in Miami itself!” What travel has taught me about…
Lufthansa is gearing up for its 100th anniversary celebrations in 2026, with next year marking a century since the foundation of the first iteration of the German flag carrier. A key plan on this front is a display at its conference center in Frankfurt that will see it showcase two of its vintage airliners. One of these is the Junkers Ju 52, a popular 1930s design that, at one point, made up half of Lufthansa’s fleet. Given its historical importance to the German flag carrier and Star Alliance founding member, the Ju 52 is a perfect fit for the centenary…
Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken has confirmed that all the F-16 fighter jets pledged by Belgium to Ukraine will indeed be delivered, reiterating his government’s commitment during a press conference at NATO headquarters in Brussels. Francken emphasized that the aircraft transfer would take place once Ukrainian pilots have completed their training and all necessary technical procedures are finalized. “The F-16s will indeed arrive in your country, but their operational availability has not yet been confirmed,” Francken said. “Training is necessary, and that takes about a month. The aircraft will arrive, but that does not mean they will be sent immediately…

Air France’s La Premiere first class is known for being among the best in the world. In terms of exclusivity and ground experience, it’s simply in a different league than anything else, and is more along the lines of what you’d expect in private aviation than commercial aviation. Along those lines, I want to share an experience that my friend Nick (yes, a contributor here from years ago) had flying Air France first class from Los Angeles (LAX) to Paris (CDG) recently. It really shows the extent to which Air France just keeps raising the bar when it comes to…
FedEx pioneered the overnight shipping industry in the 1970s, and its air division, FedEx Express, remains the world’s largest cargo airline. Its only real competition comes from UPS and DHL, but DHL primarily relies on contract carriers to perform its flying, and UPS is more reliant on its trucking division than the airline. FedEx, meanwhile, started as an airline that later purchased trucks, and it remains the king of the air cargo industry. Cargo flights primarily operate in the middle of the night, but due to the size and scale of FedEx’s operation, it does perform some daytime flying as…
A new executive aviation fractional operator with big ambitions has been unveiled during the NBAA-BACE private aviation show, taking place in Las Vegas, October 14-16, 2025. The new company, called BOND, aims to take off in the United States in 2027, with the backing of private equity giant KKR. The new private aviation firm will exclusively operate Bombardier aircraft. When announcing its launch, BOND also disclosed it is the unnamed customer that ordered 50 Challenger 3500 and Global 6500 aircraft from Bombardier in June 2025, along with signing an ad-hoc comprehensive maintenance services agreement. In addition to this 50-strong firm…
The United States is planning on banning Chinese airlines from using Russian airspace on all flights to and from the United States, though as you might expect, there’s some pushback… US DOT wants to add airspace restrictions on Chinese airlines Since early 2022, Russian airspace has been closed to aircraft registered in the United States, and vice versa. This is of course related to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which has had much wider implications, in terms of sanctions. These airspace closures have posed a challenge for many airlines, given the size of Russia, and the importance of its airspace for…
Integrated executive aviation group Comlux has announced that it will complete the cabin outfitting of eight VIP airliners for Magnifica Air: six Airbus A220 and two A321 aircraft. The contract includes options for an unspecified number of additional aircraft. The announcement was made during the NBAA-BACE executive aviation show, which is taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada, October 14-16, 2025. Comlux will carry out this project at its Indianapolis completion center, where it has outfitted all the preceding A220 VIP conversions. Work on the aircraft will cover the aircraft structure, the cabin interior fittings and the aircraft’s connectivity…
Since the development of the Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT), which began as a concept in 2000, the brigade has had a requirement for a mobile howitzer as outlined in the Stryker Operational Requirements Document. That document states “a self-propelled 155mm howitzer is the required capability” that “can be displaced from its firing position by no more than five soldiers in two minutes.” However, the Army has failed to deliver on this critical capability for the past 25 years, and the result is a dangerous capability gap that significantly affects the lethality of the brigade. For the past nine years,…
