In a separate post, I shared the details of an upcoming review trip that I’ve planned, where I’ll be flying Porter, Air France, Aircalin, Thai Airways, and SWISS. There’s one thing I’m trying to decide on, and I’d very much appreciate some feedback… What should I do with a couple of days in Paris? Due to award availability, my upcoming review trip has me in Paris for a couple of days. Now, Paris is of course an incredible city, but I’ve spent a lot of time there, and I’m alone, and I always try to maximize the “content” I can…
The European ultra-low-cost carrier WizzAir is planning a revised fleet of all Airbus A321neo aircraft from 2033, comprising 368 Airbus A321neos, in addition to 11 game-changing A321XLRs, to support its trans-European and potential long-haul ambitions. The carrier, which operates extensively in Eastern Europe, looks to expand its footprint in Central and Eastern Europe, with new bases planned as it exits both Vienna and Abu Dhabi. WizzAir, which is headquartered in Budapest, Hungary, operates several subsidiaries, such as Wizz Air Malta and Wizz Air UK. The airline serves destinations across North Africa, the Middle East, South and Central Asia, and most…
There are many innovations that have made the air travel experience in the United States easier over the years, including Trusted Traveler Programs, like Global Entry and TSA PreCheck. Global Entry is awesome, because it expedites the immigration process. Once enrolled, Global Entry is a privilege and not a right, so it can be revoked at the will of Customs and Border Protection (CBP), even before its expiration. Along those lines, it’s interesting to note some data on how the number of people having this perk revoked has increased sharply, as flagged by View from the Wing. Global Entry revocations…
While it may seem most big-ticket military items are overbudget and delayed, the Northrop Grumman B-21 Raider appears to stand out as the exception to the rule. The program appears to be more or less on budget and on schedule. Two years after the first flight, the rapid development of the program is seeing the next-generation bomber on track to enter service in 2027. The Air Force now has two examples in testing, and another two are expected to arrive in 2026. While the Raider may superficially look similar to the older flying wing Spirit, it represents decades of improvement…
For two weeks, Italy hosted 4th and 5th gen assets, joint capabilities, and naval components in a training scenario that reflects today’s operational challenges. The Italian Air Force announced the completion of Exercise Falcon Strike 2025 at Amendola Air Base, home of the 32° Stormo and one of Europe’s main hubs for 5th generation fighter operations. Running from Nov. 3 to 14, 2025, the exercise is the largest and most complex training event organized by the Italian Air Force this year. FS 2025, now at the third edition, brought together more than 1,000 personnel and over 50 aircraft from Italy,…
Emirates’ current situation might just be the clearest example of how the aircraft manufacturer duopoly leaves airlines choosing between the lesser of evils, rather than something they’re actually excited about… Emirates reportedly plans to order 30+ A350-1000s Until recently, Emirates had a really streamlined fleet, consisting of Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s. No airline loves the A380 as much as Emirates, though unfortunately even Emirates’ commitment to order more of the planes wasn’t enough to get Airbus (and a partner) to invest in new engines, and keep production going. Emirates’ initial plan was to rely almost exclusively on the Boeing…
The once prolific Boeing 747 is slowly fading into the annals of history as more fuel-efficient twinjets dominate the world of aviation. Presently, there are only two 747-derived aircraft in use by the United States military. The United States Air Force operates six jets for two different missions, with two more on order. A single example of a third platform has already been retired, the YAL-1 airborne laser. The most famous 747 variant flown by the USAF is “Air Force One,” officially designated VC-25A. There are also four examples of the E-4B still in service. Nicknamed the Doomsday playing, the…
The certification, carried out with two Brazilian Air Force Gripen Es, will greatly expand the capabilities of the jet and give an added capability to air forces that operate both aircraft types. Embraer, the Brazilian Air Force (Força Aérea Brasileira – FAB) and Saab announced on Nov. 14, 2025 that they certified the F-39 Gripen E (local designation of the JAS39 Gripen E) to be refueled by the KC-390 Millenium following an extensive testing campaign. This Gripen E, the most advanced version of the Gripen, is currently operated by Brazil and Sweden, which received its first airframe on Oct. 20,…
I hope everyone is having a nice weekend so far! I’m enjoying spending time with family, before heading off on my review trip soon, which I’m looking forward to as well! On the points & travel front, this week Alaska’s new Rome flight went on sale, some TSA agents got a $10K bonus for their work during the shutdown, Virgin Atlantic introduced a new reward for long term loyalty, LOT Polish Airlines added San Francisco flights, Beond Airlines announced a (possible) global expansion, and more. With that out of the way, here’s a recap of this week on the blog:…
Blue Islands, the Jersey- and Guernsey-based regional airline, has elected to suspend operations with immediate effect after about 26 years of serving the Channel Islands. The ATR 72 operator has grounded its fleet and canceled all flights from November 14, 2025, after the Government of Jersey decided it could no longer provide the financing needed to support these low-demand routes. The shutdown leaves thousands of overall bookings in limbo, and it removes a key lifeline carrier linking Jersey and Guernsey with cities such as Bristol, Exeter, East Midlands, and Southampton. Coming just a few weeks after the collapse of fellow…
