The airline industry is projected to lose over $11 billion during 2025 due to slow aircraft production, with supply chain issues forcing airlines to keep older planes operational, according to a new International Air Transport Association (IATA) report. In a joint study, released on October 13, 2025, by IATA together with international management consulting firm Oliver Wyman, the association noted that these supply chain issues are causing airlines to reevaluate their fleet strategies, often resulting in the prolonged use of older aircraft. “Today’s aircraft fleet is larger, more advanced, and more fuel efficient than ever before,” said Matthew Poitras, Partner in Oliver…
No more relying on the U.S. Army to protect the Air Force’s air bases — it’s time for the Air Force to take responsibility to defend its own airfields, argues an Air Force officer.“The Air Force is doctrinally responsible for its own force protection,” wrote Lt. Col. Phil Ferris, an airpower strategist on the Air Staff, in a recent essay for the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies. Currently, “the Air Force’s only current active defense option” comes from its own fighter aircraft. But that’s not feasible in many cases, Ferris argues.“Many air bases do not have fighters on station, including many…

On October 13, 2025, Air Serbia announced the launch of a new long-haul service between its base at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (BEG) and Toronto-Pearson (YYZ). The new route will be operated seasonally during the spring and summer months, with the first flight scheduled for May 23, 2026 (with ticket sales opening on October 16, 2025). Flights will depart Belgrade on Wednesdays and Saturdays and be operated by an Airbus A330-200. The airline has highlighted that this can, actually, be considered a resumption of service, since its predecessor, Yugoslavian national carrier JAT already used to operate between Belgrade and…
The U.S. Army has conducted a thorough assessment of supply chain risks to build the Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft, the MV-75, and is aiming to deliver the prototype aircraft in fiscal 2027, the program executive officer for Army aviation, Brig. Gen. David Phillips, told Defense News in a recent interview.Following calls from Army senior leaders to dramatically accelerate the MV-75’s fielding, plans conveyed earlier this year to hit production of the advanced tiltrotor by FY28 still stand, according to Army aviation leadership in the same interview.Textron’s Bell won the contract to build the aircraft in late 2022, beating out a…
Most of us dread the prospect of a long-haul flight in economy class, rigid seats, no privacy and little legroom. Trying to get sufficient rest always seems an impossible feat, but maybe the airlines are starting to make economy class more comfortable. After all, we’ve seen the rise in popularity of premium economy at many airlines, so what effect is that having on economy class? It seems that airlines are redesigning their economy class to include a little more space, wider seats and legroom. Cabins are looking more spacious and airy and there are design features that maximize space. Here…

The U.S. Army is revising the worldwide distribution of forward-deployed equipment, dubbed preposition stock, as officials weigh its utility and cost, Lt. Gen. Chris Mohan, the acting Army Materiel Command commander, told Defense News.“There are going to be changes to the [Army Prepositioned Stock] program,” Mohan said in an interview just ahead of the Association of the U.S. Army’s annual conference in Washington. The effort was designed to stage weapons, vehicles, equipment and supplies at key global locations so forces can rapidly respond to crises. In recent years, the Army has moved from viewing the use of APS kit as…
I thought it would be fun to do a series of posts on some of the world’s small luxury hotel groups. I’ve written in the past about Airelles, BVLGARI, Cheval Blanc, Ritz-Carlton Reserve, etc. In this post, I’d like to take a look at Oetker Hotels (previously branded as Oetker Collection), a small group of ultra-luxury properties that are among the most refined hotels in the world, exemplifying old world European hospitality. Some people might not be familiar with the Oetker brand as such, but are almost certainly familiar with the individual properties, many of which frequently rank on the…
The world’s first commercial flight took off from St. Petersburg, Florida, on January 1, 1914, and landed 30 minutes later in Tampa, covering just 17 kilometers. More than a century later, advances in aircraft design and engine technology have made it possible for airlines to operate non-stop services spanning thousands of miles. Today, several carriers operate some of the world’s longest flights, routes that stretch beyond 9,000 miles and often exceed 16 hours in duration. Many of these ultra long haul services involve the United States and connect it directly with distant destinations across Asia and Oceania. Typically, such services…
