The 919th Special Operations Wing flew the AC-130A Spectre for 20 years, before transitioning to non-gunship aircraft, and will now operate the new AC-130J. The 919th Special Operations Wing (919th SOW) marked its return to the aircraft gunship role on Oct. 9, 2025, after its constituent 711th Special Operations Squadron (711th SOS) flew its first AC-130J Ghostrider from Hurlburt Field, Florida. The unit previously operated the AC-130A Spectre gunship aircraft from 1975 to 1995, before it transitioned to multiple types of non-gunship aircraft for special operations. Mount Semeru in Indonesia has recently erupted violently, sending clouds of ash several kilometers into the sky and triggering a red aviation warning to be issued from Australia’s Volcanic Ash Advisory Center in Darwin. This highlights increased concern over how ash in the atmosphere could impact air safety. East Java raised the alert regarding the nation’s tallest volcano, issuing evacuations over concerns about ash, lava, and gas surging down the slopes and blanketing nearby villages. Airlines flying between Australia and Southeast Asia have been warned to avoid the ash cloud, which can severely damage jet engines and critical aircraft systems.…
Anduril previously said a breakthrough in Omen’s development came through collaboration with Archer Aviation, which develops hybrid-electric VTOL systems. Archer Aviation has announced on Nov. 17, 2025, that it will supply its proprietary hybrid powertrain to third parties, starting with the Omen drone being developed by Anduril and Edge Group. The drone was recently unveiled as a new hover-to-cruise, runway-independent Autonomous Air Vehicle (AAV) that the partners say combines the endurance and payload of much larger aircraft with the logistics simplicity of a compact Group-3 platform. Following Omen’s presentation, Anduril admitted its engineers faced propulsion limits on a demonstrator tested…
ZeroAvia has become the first hydrogen-electric power plant developer to obtain design organization approval. The design organization approval (DOA) from the U.K. Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) sends a clear signal about the capabilities and procedures ZeroAvia has established to remain compliant with U.K. commercial air regulations, the company told Cargo Facts. The DOA is for […] source
JetBlue will be flying even further into Europe next year. The airline has announced that it is adding new daily summer seasonal service from Boston Logan International Airport to Barcelona and Milan in 2026. This will mean that the airline will offer nine daily nonstops from Boston to Europe in the summer, to go with the six daily nonstop flights to Europe that it…
The UK Defense Secretary said the Russian ship pointed lasers at a RAF P-8 Poseidon while on the edge of UK waters off Scotland. The Russian intelligence ship Yantar is currently sailing on the edge of UK waters off the coast of Scotland, monitored by the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy. During a surveillance mission, a RAF P-8 Poseidon Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) was targeted by a laser from the Russian ship, said the UK Defense Secretary John Healey on Nov. 19, 2025. Shining lasers at an aircraft is extremely dangerous and can have serious consequences, possibly blinding…

We live in an era where many airlines are constantly seeking ways to unlock new routes and improve cost-efficiency. The emergence of long-range single-aisle aircraft has significantly reshaped the aviation landscape. In our guide, we will explore how Airbus has revolutionized long-haul travel, but not with massive widebody jets as one might think, but through the clever evolution of its single-aisle family. We’ll look in particular at how the deployment of the Airbus A321LR and subsequently, the Airbus A321XLR changed the game: opening up new direct routes, enabling operators of all kinds to fly thinner long-haul markets, and making narrowbodies…
