While I’m sure some people are very happy about this, others are really angry and feel unappreciated, and I don’t blame them… Trump gives bonuses to 776 air traffic controllers We just recently saw an end to the 43-day government shutdown, which was the longest in United States history. During this time, we saw most government employees (including air traffic controllers) work without getting paychecks for weeks on end. On November 10, 2025, President Trump took to social media in a pretty out-there post, where he praised the air traffic controllers who had perfect attendance during the shutdown, and blasted…

A WestJet Boeing 737 was on approach to Toronto-Pearson when the crew had to perform a go-around on Thursday, November 20. Data from Flightradar24 shows that there was another aircraft on the runway, a NetJets Cessna Citation, which had just landed ahead of the 737. The Citation was attempting to exit the runway when the 737 performed a go-around. A go-around, while discomforting for most passengers, is a routine procedure that is practised rigorously by pilots for exactly such scenarios. This is performed when a landing is deemed to be potentially unsafe by air traffic control or the pilots, including…

In recent years, airlines have reported an increase in unruly and disruptive passenger behavior on board. This includes incidents such as violence against crew and fellow passengers, harassment, verbal abuse, smoking, and refusal to follow safety or public-health instructions. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), around 60 operators filed 53,538 incident reports in 2024, equal to one event for every 395 flights. Non-compliance with crew instructions remained the most common issue, and reports of verbal and physical aggression also increased. Such incidents sometimes lead to delays and diversions, which create operational disruption that can cost airlines thousands of…

Air Transat is one of the most compelling transformation stories among American carriers in recent years.   Once a leisure-focused airline devoted almost exclusively to ferrying Canadians to sun-soaked destinations, the carrier has undergone a remarkable reinvention following an unsuccessful acquisition bid launched by Air Canada in 2019.  The saga lasted for almost two years, with the deal finally collapsing after the European Union competition authorities indicated that it would be rejected. It is hard to say up to which degree those events contributed to what happened next, but the fact is that, in the course of the last four years,…

Air traffic controllers and technicians with perfect attendance during the government shutdown will enjoy a $10,000 bonus. It is estimated that around 20,000 ATCs will miss out on this payout, with just 776 controllers or technicians eligible, as reported by the Associated Press. This comes off the back of widespread disruption to air travel in the United States, with many employees calling in sick or refusing overtime as they were expected to work unpaid. The pressure on controllers started to mount, with financial restraints meaning they would work without a paycheck. As a result, many got side jobs to bring…

The Airbus A350XWB “extra widebody” is famous for being an extremely efficient and modern jetliner. It was created as a clean sheet design and response to the Boeing 787 Dreamliner made by Boeing, and has been a hit on the market since it debuted. The merits of the aircraft’s design are well known for their benefits to airlines, but what about flyers? A lot of the same design and engineering features that went into making the jet bigger and better in many metrics across the board, and only improve performance and operating costs, but also make it a much more…
