The Airbus A380 is one of the most iconic widebody aircraft ever built. The double-decker aircraft was developed to handle high-density, long-haul routes from major hubs, and it drew strong interest from airlines when it first arrived. However, its size and operating costs made profitability challenging for many carriers, especially as the industry shifted toward more efficient twin-engine jets. In addition, production delays also affected the program; several airlines canceled their orders and the European planemaker eventually ended A380 manufacturing in 2021. Only a few airlines continue to operate the type today. According to ch-aviation data, more than 150 A380s…
The first Boeing 777 ever delivered has made its final flight with United Airlines, sending the aircraft to storage after more than 30 years of active service. The aircraft, which is registered as N777UA, was first introduced into service back in 1995. Last week, it made its final trip to Victorville’s Southern California Logistics Airport (SCLA), where it will be scrapped for parts. For Star Alliance carrier United, this Boeing 777-200 has been a vital workhorse in its initial long-haul operations. United was the launch customer for the type, and remains the world’s largest operator. A Workhorse In The United…
Flying business class typically has perks such as an amenity kit, better meals, and a lie-flat seat, in comparison to flying in economy class. Domestic first class in the US is more akin to premium economy class with a larger seat and maybe upgraded meals and drinks. International first class is seen as prestigious and luxurious, but is it really better than business class? Business class has become increasingly popular in recent years, and airlines have begun to focus on revamping their cabins. Some airlines have left first class completely behind, and the difference between the two classes is sometimes…
Starting on February 1, 2026, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will allow travelers who arrive at screening without a REAL ID, passport, or other acceptable ID to pay a $45 nonrefundable fee to attempt alternative identity verification through its Confirm.ID process. This individual payment covers a ten-day travel window. The payment can be handled online before one gets to the airport, but it could still result in additional time spent waiting at security. The fee itself is higher than an earlier $18 proposal, and the TSA says around 94% of flyers already show compliant ID, while children under 18 are…

The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has announced a noteworthy change to its identity-verification program for travelers who arrive at airport security without an acceptable form of identification. Beginning on February 1, 2026, passengers who do not present a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or other approved ID (such as a passport) will be directed to a new paid option called TSA Confirm.ID, which carries a $45 fee for a 10-day travel window. The announcement marks a revision to the identity-verification approach TSA outlined in late November 2025, when the agency published a Federal Register notice describing an $18 fee tied to a modernized process for confirming travelers’…
Aviation enthusiasts can tell if it’s an Airbus A220 taking off just by the distinctive sound it makes. This howling sound is sometimes described as sounding something like a whale, and is indirectly related to its Pratt & Whitney PW1500G geared turbofan. Variants of the PW GTF also power the Embraer E-Jet E2 series and some of the Airbus A320neos, but those aircraft do not have the same degree of howling sound. The Airbus A220 is distinctive from the rest of the aircraft in Airbus’s lineup as it started out as the Bombardier CSeries and was only sold to Airbus…

Travel pundits have been predicting for weeks that Thanksgiving 2025 could be the busiest ever for US commercial aviation. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has now confirmed that Sunday, November 30 was the busiest travel day in US history, with more than 3.13 million passengers screened at airports nationwide. This new record surpasses the previous busiest day of 3.09 million passengers, set earlier this year, and represents a 1.4% increase from the post-Thanksgiving Sunday last year. Before this year, US airport screenings had only exceeded 3 million passengers on two occasions, but this has now occurred on seven days in…
