The Future Aero Festival, hosted by the Sustainable Aero Lab in Amsterdam on December 1-2, 2025, brought together innovators and investors from both sides of the Atlantic for two days of discussions about the future of aviation technology. The event also provided AeroTime with the chance to speak with Daniel Moczydlower, President and CEO of Embraer-X, the innovation division of the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer to better understand its role within the group. Embraer-X enjoys, in fact, a significant degree of autonomy within Embraer. It hands directly from the group’s parent company structure and is not part of any of the group’s…
Singapore Airlines is famous for having been the original operator of the Airbus A380, with the double-decker quadjet entering service with the Asian carrier more than 18 years ago, back in October of 2007. According to data made available by ch-aviation, the Star Alliance member now has 12 ‘superjumbos’ at its disposal, with their average age of 11.8 years old being more than three years above the carrier’s fleet-wide mean (8.7 years). Of these 12 aircraft, 10 are listed as being active at the time of writing by ch-aviation, while two (9V-SKS and 9V-SKT) are undergoing maintenance procedures at Singapore…
Well here’s an announcement that I didn’t see coming… Hamad Ali Al‑Khater appointed Qatar Airways CEO Hamad Ali Al‑Khater has been appointed Qatar Airways CEO as of today (December 7, 2025), succeeding Badr Mohammed Al-Meer. Keep in mind that Al-Meer was only appointed CEO of Qatar Airways in late 2023, replacing longtime CEO Akbar Al Baker, who had been leading the airline for 27 years. Al-Khater joins Qatar Airways from Hamad International Airport, where he served as Chief Operating Officer, responsible for ensuring the safety and reliability of airport operations, while leading the airport’s strategic direction, operational excellence, infrastructure expansion,…
Airlines around the world are placing greater emphasis on premium inflight experiences. From chauffeur services to the gate to private bedrooms to inflight bars, airlines are investing in luxury. This has been an even stronger trend in the US in recent years, as consumers have shown a strong willingness to pay for luxury. The response has been a renewed focus on developing best-in-class experiences for travelers beginning the minute they arrive at the airport. For America’s largest airline, United Airlines, the answer lies with its most-premium cabin offering: Polaris business class. United Polaris offers everything one would expect in a…
There are 10,000+ air traffic controllers in the United States, who have incredibly stressful jobs that keep our skies safe. Among those air traffic controllers, there’s one guy at New York Kennedy Airport who has made a name — or perhaps more accurately, a voice — for himself based on his attitude. Here’s the latest example of him exercising his authority to teach a pilot a lesson. LOT Boeing 787 Dreamliner pilot taught lesson by ATC This incident happened at around 11PM on November 18, 2025, and involves LOT Polish Airlines flight LO27, which was operating from New York (JFK)…
While Qantas used to fly Boeing widebodies from the popular 747 and 767 families, its only twin-aisle airliners from the US company these days come from the 787 Dreamliner series. According to present fleet data made available by ch-aviation, the oneworld founding member currently has a grand total of 14 mid-sized 787-9s at its disposal, with another four of these (and eight 787-10s) still on order. Data from aeroLOPA shows that the Australian flag carrier favors a relatively premium-heavy seating layout for these twinjets, with space for 236 passengers onboard. This capacity is split between 42 business class flatbeds, 28…
In general, airline elite status isn’t quite as valuable as it used to be — upgrades are harder to get, award pricing has been devalued, and many perks have been cut back. However, I’d argue that alliance-wide status continues to be very valuable, for the premium perks it offers across a number of airlines. When I think of my international flying memories, the perks I’ve received on account of my oneworld Emerald status are among my favorites. I’d like to dedicate this post to why I love oneworld Emerald status so much, as I’m sure I’m not alone. What is…
In the modern world of single-aisle aircraft, range has become one of the most defining elements of contemporary fleet strategy. Airlines are increasingly looking for narrowbodies capable of flying farther, opening new city pairs, and replacing widebodies on long-thin missions. With Airbus promoting the Airbus A321XLR as a true long-range leader, and Boeing positioning the Boeing 737 MAX 10 as its high-capacity single-aisle flagship, many travelers and industry observers are asking: just how much more range does the Airbus A321XLR actually have compared to the Boeing 737 MAX? This question is incredibly important because range dictates which routes an airline…
The quality of airport lounges can vary hugely, depending on where in the world you are, who can access the lounge, etc. Airlines and lounge operators try to find all kinds of ways to differentiate their lounge experience, and one of those ways is with complimentary spa treatments for guests. In this post, I’d like to provide a rundown of what I’d consider to be the best complimentary spa treatments you’ll find in airport lounges. I’ll rank them roughly in order of quality and availability. If I get any details wrong or there are any good ones I’m missing, please…
The battle for premium travel is fiercer than ever. Airlines are locked in an escalating competition to dominate in seat design, cabin comfort, and personalized service. Premium Economy and Business Class have become key battlegrounds, with carriers investing heavily in spacious seating, enhanced privacy, and elevated dining experiences to outshine their rivals. But the contest doesn’t end on board the aircraft. The modern premium journey now begins at the airport, where lounges have evolved into powerful brand statements. From curated dining and barista-made coffee to quiet workspaces and wellness amenities, these spaces increasingly shape travelers’ loyalty and expectations. Qatar Airways…
