Hidden away inside the 3,000-page bill, which grants the Department of “War” $900 billion and greatly expedites weapons acquisition programs, is a provision to open up military flight access in Washington, DC, airspace with fewer tracking requirements. Specifically, the bill grants US Army helicopters nearly free rein in the airspace of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), where 67 people died in January of this year in a midair collision. The chair of the National Transportation Safety Board, an unprecedented move in American lawmaking history, publicly and assertively pushed back against the bill during congressional review. Jennifer Homendy, NTSB Chair,…
An airport security guard suffering from an apparent medical emergency has been hospitalized after driving a car at high speed down an active taxiway at John Wayne Airport-Orange County Airport (SNA). American Airlines is beginning a limited rollout of free Wi-Fi on select flights. As flagged by JonNYC on X, American began “testing” this new system on December 10. The airline had previously announced that it would offer free Wi-Fi to all passengers who are members of its AAdvantage loyalty program, with a previously announced official rollout of January 2026. The free Wi-Fi, sponsored by AT&T, will be available on all aircraft that are equipped with Viasat or Intelsat high-speed connectivity. While these are the Wi-Fi providers for a vast majority of American Airlines’ fleet, this program will be notably excluded…
When you’re in an airport lounge, do you leave your bags unattended at any point? If so, under what circumstances? I think it’s an interesting topic, because I imagine it’s something many people do without even thinking about it… but maybe that’s fine? Unattended bags in a lounge are a tricky topic Typically when we’re at airports, we’re told not to leave our bags unattended. That makes perfect sense, since you don’t want anyone tampering with your luggage. On some US-bound flights, you’ll even be asked specific security questions, like whether your bags have been unattended at any point. If…
The City of Austin is expected to keep Southwest Airlines as close strategic partner, as the city council looks to vote on a wider incentive programme that could see a rapid expansion of Southwest operations at the Texan airport. The airline is already expected to be the anchor tenant of the airline’s new Terminal, which is set to open by 2030. This Thursday, it is expected that the council will cast its vote on whether the city will commit to an improved incentive pitch that could see the world’s largest low-cost carrier expand its operations at Austin–Bergstrom International Airport. Already,…

When passengers watched a Boeing 747-400 push back from a gate in the 1990s and early 2000s, they were looking at an aircraft that defined intercontinental travel. With more than 400 seats, four engines, and enough range to connect the world’s largest hubs, the 747-400 became the symbol of long-haul aviation and earned its “Queen of the Skies” nickname. As of 2025, that sight is becoming rare. A small group of airlines still fly the 747-400 in passenger service: Lufthansa operates the type from Frankfurt alongside newer 747-8s, while Air China and Rossiya Airlines use remaining 747-400s on a mix…
