Back in August, Alaska Airlines announced plans to introduce free Starlink Wi-Fi, which probably didn’t come as much of a surprise. There’s now an exciting update, as the airline has moved forward the timeline for this debuting, and the first several planes with the service are already flying. Alaska’s free Starlink Wi-Fi for Atmos Rewards members Alaska Airlines is working with SpaceX to introduce Starlink Wi-Fi throughout its fleet, including on all Boeing 787s, Boeing 737s, and Embraer E175s. The Seattle Times reports that this service is now live — the first four Horizon Air Embraer E175s are now flying,…
The Boeing 737 sits unusually close to the aircraft apron, a design choice that traces its origins back to the 1960s, when many airports lacked jet bridges, high-loaders, and large amounts of ground service equipment. Keeping the jet’s fuselage low made boarding via the stairs easier, sped up baggage handling, and simplified maintenance on the aircraft. It also locked the aircraft into short landing gear and a tight space under the wing. Decades later, that constraint collided with a very modern demand for lower fuel burn. High-bypass turbofans deliver big efficiency gains, and their fans continue to grow in diameter.…
In this post, I’d like to talk a bit about how to go about filing a complaint with an airline, because it’s something that a lot of people are really bad at (respectfully). So let me share some tips about how I’d go about approaching a complaint to an airline, and most importantly, what not to do. Separately, I wrote about how to complain to a hotel. Tips for effectively filing an airline complaint Did you have a bad experience with an airline? Maybe your flight was delayed, or your bag was lost, or you received unhelpful service, or you…
Spirit Aviation Holdings, Inc., the parent company of the United States-based ultra‑low‑cost carrier Spirit Airlines, has announced an amendment to its debtor‑in‑possession (DIP) credit agreement to support ongoing restructuring efforts under Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The updated agreement provides access to an additional $100 million in financing, with $50 million immediately available, helping the airline maintain operations while it works toward financial stability. This development comes as Spirit continues to navigate severe liquidity challenges amid its restructuring process in Dania Beach, Florida, and beyond. The amended credit support aims to give Spirit the flexibility and capital it needs to pursue a standalone reorganization plan…
Pilot’s Inadvertent Use Of The Landing Gear Control Handle Instead Of The Flaps Selector Switch During The Landing Rollout Analysis: The pilot reported that during the landing roll, about the time that he was applying the brakes, the nose landing gear collapsed. Having no training on what to do in this scenario, he cycled the landing gear by raising then lowering the landing gear control handle. Postflight inspection revealed substantial to the undercarriage near the nose landing gear bay.

Land And Hold Short Operations Operations that include simultaneous takeoffs and landings and/or simultaneous landings when a landing aircraft is able and is instructed by the controller to hold short of an intersecting runway or taxiway, a predetermined point, or an approach/departure flightpath. Pilots are expected to promptly inform the controller if the hold short clearance cannot be accepted.
The Boeing 757 was once a workhorse of the US airline industry. Launched in the early 1980s, it offered a unique combination of range, capacity, and performance. It was a single-aisle aircraft capable of transatlantic flights or high-capacity domestic routes. For decades, the 757 operated flights that were too big for a standard narrowbody or too small for a large widebody aircraft. However, in recent years, the 757’s prominence on a global scale has diminished significantly. Few airlines outside the United States continue to operate the 757, and American became the first of the big three US carriers to retire…
A JetBlue Airways flight leaving the Caribbean island of Curaçao narrowly avoided a collision with a US Air Force refueling tanker shortly after takeoff, leading the crew to halt the aircraft’s ascent to ensure safe distance. The incident took place on December 12, 2025, and involved a JetBlue Airways Airbus A320-232 operating as flight B61112 from Curaçao International Airport (CUR) in Willemstad to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). According to Flightradar24, Flight B61112 took off from Curaçao at 20:38 local time and was expected to take around four hours and 23 minutes to reach New York. The transatlantic journey spans approximately 3,188 kilometers. During the climb, when…
JetBlue is known for its excellent Mint business class experience, though the catch is that it’s only available on select premium routes. Fortunately we’ve known that JetBlue also plans to introduce a premium product throughout the rest of its fleet, more comparable to domestic first class. This makes perfect sense, not just due to the broad travel trends we’ve seen, but also due to the premium markets that JetBlue operates in, given its particularly big presence in Boston and New York. In late 2024, JetBlue confirmed it would introduce first class (with some details shared by Live and Let’s Fly),…
