Many loyalty programs have invitation-only elite tiers, like American Concierge Key, Delta 360, United Global Services, and Hyatt Courtesy Card. At least on the airline front, these tiers are typically pretty widely known. What many people don’t realize is that Marriott also has an invitation-only elite tier. It’s possibly the most exclusive invitation-only elite tier of all, because I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone earning it. Marriott Bonvoy’s five published elite tiers Marriott Bonvoy is the world’s largest hotel loyalty program, and it has five published elite tiers: Marriott Bonvoy elite members may receive room upgrades Who gets…
Ultra-long-haul flying has become one of the defining features of modern aviation, with flights now lasting 15, 17, and even 19 hours in total. But while passengers generally focus on how to survive these journeys, the reality is that cabin crew must work, rest, and remain alert throughout the entire operation. Understanding how crew members actually sleep, rotate breaks, and manage fatigue is crucial to ensuring these flights operate safely and efficiently, while providing the best service for all passengers on board. As airlines like Singapore Airlines, Air New Zealand, Qantas, and Xiamen Airlines all push the boundaries of nonstop…
“These new aircraft strengthen our ability to respond quickly, train effectively and support communities nationwide. Textron Aviation has been a steadfast supporter in helping us fulfill our mission to serve and protect.” Source: Maj. Gen. Regena Aye, National Commander and CEO of CAP, discussing a large purchase of single-engine Cessna aircraft.
From 2011 (YouTube Edition): Rugged, Legendary, STOL Twin Makes A Comeback The de Havilland Twin Otter is an airplane with a long history, and it gained a reputation as a workhorse of an airplane. But after it went out of production, Viking Air became one of the principal suppliers of spare parts and service to keep the airplanes flying. Dave Curtis, President and CEO of Viking Air Limited, told ANN at NBAA in Las Vegas this year that he often heard operators ask why the airplane wasn’t put back into production.
An Aer Lingus A321XLR faces a multimillion-dollar repair bill following a very hard landing at Dublin Airport (DUB) last week. The extra-long-range narrowbody — one of its first two A321XLRs delivered to the Irish carrier 12 months ago — has reportedly suffered significant damage to its landing gear and will require a complete replacement. The aircraft was recorded by plane spotters in Dublin making a heavy landing amid strong winds, which may have played a role in the accident. The plane’s load report apparently registered the landing with a force of 3.3G, far above safe limits and almost three times…
The Airbus A380 is easily one of the most iconic aircraft ever built, yet it is also frequently labeled as one of aviation’s greatest commercial failures. With production ending after just 251 deliveries, many observers point to the program as proof that very large passenger aircraft no longer make economic sense in today’s era of aviation. But does the A380 truly deserve the “commercial flop” label, or is that assessment overly simplistic? This article examines whether the Airbus A380 genuinely failed from a commercial perspective by analyzing market conditions, airline strategies, expert commentary, and the aircraft’s long-term legacy. Drawing on…
Welcome to my next trip report series, which will be a bit different than usual. That’s because this is about a trip that I just completed (primarily) with my dad, and up until now, I haven’t provided any “live” updates, so everything will be new. Furthermore, there won’t be any formal flight reviews with this series, but rather, I’ll just have some flight observations and musings, plus detailed hotel and airport lounge reviews. This trip ended up being super fun, including a stay at an excellent Park Hyatt, two Marriott properties in Germany that have long interested me, a very…

The age of the McDonnell Douglas DC-8 has finally come to an end in the US. N782SP, a DC-8-72CF that has been operating for Christian humanitarian aid organization Samaritan’s Purse, has flown its final flight to Lynchburg Regional Airport in Virginia, where it will be put on display. The DC-8 first entered service over 66 years ago, and N782SP in particular is 57 years old. It’s one of the most legendary airliners ever built, but time has finally caught up with the ancient quadjet. However, fans of the aircraft need not fear, as the plane will be preserved and displayed.…
US ‘big three’ legacy carriers Delta Air Lines and United Airlines are among the last remaining operators of the Boeing 757-300. This narrowbody twinjet is a stretched version of the original Boeing 757-200, and it was produced in relatively limited numbers, with just 55 examples rolling off the factory line. Despite, or perhaps because of, its rarity, as well as its curious long and thin appearance, the Boeing 757-300 has become a popular choice among avgeeks around the world when it comes to both photography and travel. However, these aircraft aren’t getting any younger, and their dwindling significance is evidenced…
