The world’s first hydrogen-fueled hypersonic jet may be able to reach a simply astounding speed of 12 times the speed of sound. That’s about half the speed of satellites in low Earth orbit. The aircraft comes from the imagination of Hypersonix Launch Systems, a Brisbane-based company. This article discovers the host of factors that could make aviation at Mach 12 possible. This includes the SPARTAN scramjet engine, impressive financial backing, and a testing program in partnership with the US military. The choice of hydrogen fuel could also be game-changing for hypersonic aviation. For all the engineering challenges that Hypersonix needs…

Attempting to score a first class ticket for less than the eye-watering fares that are charged for booking by most full-service carriers that operate the cabin is somewhat challenging, but surprisingly simpler to do than you might think. Passengers in search of this kind of upgrade will likely find the best luck when they book a different kind of ticket and then find another way to upgrade. Airlines tend to sell leftover premium seats through multiple means, the first of which tends to be buying an upgrade in cash. This is often not the most affordable way to get an…

In 2021, Hong Kong-based Peninsula Hotels rolled out The Peninsula Promise, which consisted of a few different initiatives. I’d argue the most significant perk is that the hotel group offers the industry’s most flexible policy when it comes to being able to check-in and check-out when you’d like. In this post, I’d like to go over how that works. What is the Peninsula Hotels brand? For those of you not familiar with Peninsula, the well regarded luxury hotel group has properties in 12 cities, including Bangkok, Beijing, Beverly Hills, Chicago, Hong Kong, London, Istanbul, Manila, New York, Paris, Shanghai, and…

Libya’s army chief of staff, Gen. Mohammed Ali Ahmed al-Haddad, has been confirmed killed after the Dassault Falcon 50 business jet carrying him crashed near Ankara, Turkey, on December 23, 2025, in an incident that unfolded only hours after he met senior Turkish defense officials, authorities said.   Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said the Falcon 50 departed Ankara’s Esenboğa Airport for Tripoli at about 20:10 local time. Leaving the airspace above New York City at 2,455 miles per hour, SR-71 tail number 64-17972 would set a transatlantic speed record on Sept. 1, 1974. Stationed at Beale Air Force Base (AFB) California, SR-71 972 would become no stranger to setting world records. Crewed by pilot James Sullivan and RSO (Reconnaissance Systems Operator) Noel Widdefield, 972 would streak across the Atlantic in less than two hours before being welcomed with great fanfare at the Farnborough International Air Show. Built For Speed Lockheed’s SR-71 was designed to fly at great altitudes at great speeds to defeat enemy air defenses while…

By Scott Hamilton My book, “The Rise and Fall of Boeing and the Way Back”, has been named as one of its top picks of aviation books by the Royal Aeronautical Society for Christmas 2025. “Following on from his previous Air Wars, which looked at Airbus vs Boeing rivalry, aviation journalist and analyst Scott Hamilton brings commercial aerospace up to date with a look at the rollercoaster ride that has been Boeing’s fortunes over recent years. How did a brand that personified American engineering excellence become so distrusted by customers, politicians, and even the general public? And more important –…

The Taurus NEO is an enhanced variant of the German-Swedish Taurus KEPD 350 air-launched cruise missile. Setting the stage for the development and future production of the German-Swedish Taurus KEPD 350 Air-Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM), Germany’s Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) signed a contract for “preparing a serial production line” for a new “capability enhanced” variant of the weapon, called Taurus NEO. A Dec. 18, 2025, statement from MBDA Deutschland said the development allows the company “to produce large quantities in Germany.” This also comes nearly a year from a “Major Overhaul 2” contract…

As we all know, hotels publish both check-in and check-out times. While many hotels will generally be flexible with letting you check-in early, people reasonably expect that at the latest, a room will be ready at the published time. I’d like to talk about that in a bit more detail in this post. Are rooms sometimes not ready by the published check-in time, and if so, what happens? Why hotel rooms may not be ready at check-in time Usually hotels have a three to five hour “turnaround time” for rooms, between the published check-out time and published check-in time. In…
