Taiwanese privately owned airline EVA Air has signed an agreement to spend $1.94 billion to acquire new Boeing aircraft. These new planes are set to boost the airline’s global expansion, reliability of its fleet, and offer more long-term operational benefits. The EVA Air board approved the plan on Friday, which would see four additional Boeing 787-9 be purchased, and the extension of leases for four Boeing 777-300ER, which are already operating. EVA Air is one of the Republic of China (Taiwan )’s major international carriers alongside China Airlines and Starlux. EVA Air is a Star Alliance member and offers a…

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend so far, and happy holidays to all, and happy new year in advance. I’m grateful I had the chance to spend the holidays with family, though it came with some highs and lows. On the plus side, it was the first Christmas for our younger son (Jet), and it was also the first Christmas where our older son (Miles) really knew what was going on, so it was super cute to see his anticipation for Santa. However, it was also my first Christmas without my mom, and that was difficult. On the…

Many airlines block some bulkhead economy seat assignments in advance, primarily in the event that those with reduced mobility need to assign these seats. However, a certain amount of time before departure, these seats can be booked by anyone. This can be a great opportunity to snag a good seat, especially if you’re only reserving your flight last minute, and seating options are limited. In this post, I’d like to go over the details of American’s blocked economy seats, and when they open up. Over time, American changed the window when these seats become unblocked, so let’s go over everything.…

The airline is by far the world’s largest operator of the type, and it has built its long-haul network, premium reputation, and Dubai hub strategy around the superjumbo. However, with the A380 no longer in production and Emirates planning to retire the fleet from the mid-2030s onward, the question now facing the airline is unavoidable: which aircraft will actually replace the A380? If you look at aircraft at a busy airport, you’ll notice that most modern narrowbody jets have wingtips that point upward. These include the “Sharklets” on the Airbus A320neo and the “Advanced Technology Winglets” on the Boeing 737 MAX. These features make it easy to spot a fuel-efficient plane. The Boeing 757 stands out, though. Depending on the airline, you might see one 757 with flat wingtips and another with tall blended winglets that reach almost as high as a person. This difference makes many aviation fans ask: if winglets are so helpful, why didn’t Boeing put them on the…

The YJ-21E spotted on the J-10C is a smaller variant of the larger YJ-21/KD-21 predominantly spotted on the H-6K bomber, specifically designed for fighter jets and drones. China’s J-10C fighter has emerged in a recent photograph with what observers have identified as the ‘E’ variant of the YJ-21 Anti-Ship Ballistic Missile (AShBM), the YJ-21E. Describing it a “smaller” variant of the YJ-21 that has been previously been carried by the PLA Air Force’s H-6K bombers, ‘Hurin’, a leading profile analyzing Chinese aerospace and military equipment, also shared an image of a mock-up display of the YJ-21E from an exhibition. With the Boeing 747 Jumbo out of production, the United States Air Force has confirmed it will purchase two ex-Lufthansa Boeing 747-8 aircraft. These are to be used as trainers and for spare parts, as the force prepares to bring its VC-25B VIP Air Force One aircraft into service. It may make sense to procure extra aircraft for spares, although it’s unclear if the USAF sees any other potential role for the aircraft. Lufthansa currently has a total of 27 Boeing 747s in inventory, made up of eight Boeing 747-400s and 19 Boeing 747-8s. The airline will also be divesting…
