Every so often, I think it makes sense to talk a bit about the tools and services that I most use for managing, earning, and redeeming points. While I often mention these websites and services in passing, I think there’s also merit to writing dedicated posts about them sometimes. In this post, I’d like to talk about how and why I use Seats.aero, which is an award search tool that’s useful even if you’re an advanced miles and points geek. It’s a service that I use and pay for. In separate posts, I’ve talked about Google Flights, AwardWallet, ExpertFlyer, point.me, MaxMyPoint,…

French Rafale fighter jets deployed in the United Arab Emirates have carried out “air security” operations above French bases in the Gulf, France’s foreign minister Jean-Noël Barrot said on March 3, 2026. In an interview with French media BFMTV, Barrot said Rafale jets and their crews were “mobilized” to ensure the security of France’s presence. The fighters conducted missions to “secure the sky” above French bases in the UAE. France maintains a permanent military presence in the UAE, including Air Base 104 at Al Dhafra near Abu Dhabi and a naval facility at Port Zayed. Barrot confirmed that a drone…

AirAsia announced a string of new routes and added frequencies across its Australian network, while simultaneously stepping back from one of its smaller outposts. The airline’s expansion is part of its strategy of growing where demand is strong, and pulling back where it isn’t. The biggest addition is a new route between Melbourne Airport (MEL) and Bali’s Denpasar Airport (DPS), launching March 21, 2026, which brings 130,000 new seats to the market each year. Adelaide Airport (ADL) will also see more flights, with its Bali service growing from four to seven times weekly on the same date, and up to…

For the next segment of my Iceland to The Residence via Cambodia trip, it was time to fly Singapore Airlines’ Airbus A350-900 business class on the 50-minute flight from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Singapore (SIN). At 184 miles, this is Singapore Airlines’ shortest route, and it’s always impressive to see what a high service standard the airline offers even on short hops like this. As you’d expect, this was an excellent flight, with flat beds, great entertainment and Wi-Fi, friendly service, and pretty good food. There’s not an airline that’s more consistent when it comes to service than Singapore Airlines, and that’s something…

Intercontinental flights from Asia to Europe are facing a severe capacity crunch as major airports across the Middle East remain closed for a fourth consecutive day  Seat availability on key routes has collapsed, ticket prices have soared  to multiples of their normal levels, and airlines are being forced to reroute through longer, costlier corridors.  Passengers are feeling the pinch immediately, while Asian carriers are navigating a more complex reality: a surge in demand on one hand, and rising operating costs on the other. The crisis was triggered by US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, 2026, prompting Tehran to retaliate…

Often when we think of hotel elite status, perks like free breakfast and room upgrades may come to mind. However, World of Hyatt has one hidden perk that I think elite members often forget, which could prove valuable if you have a last minute change of plans. It has certainly saved me a few times over the years, and I figure others may not even be aware of this policy. Hyatt’s 24-hour cancelation policy for elites Hyatt has a special cancelation policy for World of Hyatt Globalist and Explorist members. While Hyatt’s standard cancelation policy requires canceling a reservation at…

Several months ago, I wrote about an online auction from a major airline looking to dump some pre-enjoyed Dreamliners. There’s now an update, as these planes have found a buyer, and we know where they’re (probably) headed. China Southern dumps fleet of 10 Boeing 787-8s China’s largest airline, China Southern, has a massive fleet of nearly 700 jets. For quite some time, the airline has been trying to sell its subfleet of Boeing 787-8s. The airline has 10 of these, and they’re an average of over 12 years old, having been delivered in 2013 and 2014. The planes are configured…
