ArianeGroup has publicly confirmed that it is developing a 150-kilometer tactical rocket with Thales under France’s FLP-T long-range land strike effort, offering one of the clearest public looks yet at the consortium’s bid to help replace the French Army’s aging rocket artillery capability. In a post published on March 10, 2026, ArianeGroup said the FLP-T 150 rocket is designed to reach 150 kilometers, with sub-decametric precision, resilience in jammed environments, an ITAR-free architecture, and a “mobile and scalable system.” The company added that a first demonstrator is planned for the first half of 2026. 150 kilometres. While the impact on the average passenger may be limited, Southwest Airlines is updating its employee travel policy in an interesting way, which is good news for some employees, and bad news for others. Southwest Airlines updates jumpseat non-rev policy One of the best perks of working in the airline industry is the travel benefits, including being able to non-rev (where you can fly for free, or at least at a huge discount, on a space available basis). While the intent is that you get a regular passenger seat if available, in some cases flights are full, and there are…
Cebu Pacific (CEB) took delivery of a new Airbus A320neo on March 6, 2026, just two days before the airline marked its 30th anniversary. The aircraft flew in from Airbus’ facility in Toulouse, France, and is the first of four A320neos expected to join the fleet this year. In total, Cebu Pacific anticipates receiving seven new aircraft in 2026 as it continues strengthening capacity amid sustained travel demand in the Philippines. “This delivery sets the tone for our 30th year,” said Xander Lao, Cebu Pacific’s President and Chief Commercial Officer. “It reflects our continued investment in growth so more passengers…
United States Customs & Border Protection (CBP) has Preclearance facilities at select foreign airports, whereby passengers clear customs and immigration prior to boarding their US-bound flight. The intent is that this is supposed to enhance security, and also be a competitive advantage for an airport.Along those lines, many Canadian airports have US Preclearance facilities. Well, after over a decade in the pipeline, there’s an exciting update today for one of Canada’s unique “city” airports. Toronto City Airport finally gets US PreclearanceWhile Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) is the major international airport in the Toronto area, there’s also Billy Bishop Toronto…
Many travel loyalty programs offer the ability to earn lifetime elite status. Ordinarily elite status has to be earned on an annual basis, so it sure is nice to be able to not worry about requalifying for status anymore. In this post, I’d like to take a look at how American AAdvantage lifetime status works, especially in light of the program improvements rolled out in early 2025. Separately, I’ve written about lifetime elite status with Alaska Atmos Rewards, Delta SkyMiles, and United MileagePlus. On the hotel front, I’ve also written about lifetime elite status with Hilton Honors, Marriott Bonvoy, and World of Hyatt. How to…

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) briefly halted all JetBlue departures early on March 10, 2026, after the airline requested a nationwide ground stop, in what appears to have been a short-lived disruption tied to an internal system outage. According to the FAA, the ground stop applied to JetBlue flights bound for all destinations. The restriction was later lifted within roughly 40 minutes to less than an hour, allowing the airline to resume normal operations soon after. JetBlue said the issue had been resolved, describing it as a “brief system outage,” though the carrier did not publicly specify which system was…
The Pentagon and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) plan to conduct tests in New Mexico of a high-energy laser designed to counter drones, as US officials work to establish safety limits for a system that has already triggered airspace disruptions in Texas. The testing, scheduled for White Sands Missile Range, is aimed at determining if the US military can use directed-energy counter-drone technology without creating unacceptable risk for civil aviation. The Pentagon said the event will examine the laser’s effects on aircraft materials, validate automated safety shut-off systems, and help with aircrew eye-safety analysis. The urgency comes from two recent Texas incidents that exposed coordination problems among federal agencies. On February 25, 2026, the US military mistakenly shot down…
Obstacle Departure Procedure (ODP) A preplanned instrument flight rule (IFR) departure procedure printed for pilot use in textual or graphic form to provide obstruction clearance via the least onerous route from the terminal area to the appropriate en route structure. ODPs are recommended for obstruction clearance and may be flown without ATC clearance unless an alternate departure procedure (SID or radar vector) has been specifically assigned by ATC.
A Leadership Controversy Exposes A Deeper Reality: Many Aviation Institutions Are Drifting Away From The Pilots They Were Created To Represent. News/Analysis/Opinion By Jim Campbell, ANN CEO/Editor-In-Chief It’s been a wild couple of weeks in the aviation news business… especially for the (very) few that have tackled recent developments with candor, clarity and the best interests of the Aero-Verse at heart. The recent turmoil surrounding the leadership transition at AOPA has triggered a wave of discussion if not dissension across the aviation community, raising difficult but necessary questions about the future direction of the organization and, more broadly, the effectiveness…
