I sometimes share what I consider to be the world’s best business class seats, and also what I view as the world’s best business class airlines. In this post, I’d like to talk more broadly about the amenities, services, and features, that make a business class product great. While flying business class is just about always better than flying economy, there’s a huge amount of variance in terms of the quality of business class between airlines. I walk away from some flights thinking “I wouldn’t fly that airline again even if it was the only nonstop option,” while I walk…
I just had an interesting experience trying to access the Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, and I’m not sure what exactly to make of it, as I found the enforcement to be a bit odd. My Malaysia Airlines lounge access denialI’m currently on a trip where I’m flying Malaysia Airlines business class from Tokyo Narita (NRT) to Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), with a roughly 15-hour overnight layover in Kuala Lumpur, arriving at 6PM and departing at 9AM (that was the next available flight based on my first segment, and it’s how…
Mission autonomy software by Collins and Shield AI was integrated on the YFQ-42 and YFQ-44 CCAs by using the government-owned A-GRA architecture. The U.S. Air Force has reached a new milestone in its Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) program, demonstrating that government-owned Autonomy Government Reference Architecture (A-GRA) can be successfully integrated with mission autonomy software. As part of this effort, General Atomics’ YFQ-42A and Anduril’s YFQ-44A were integrated with mission autonomy software provided by Collins Aerospace and Shield AI, respectively. The testing focuses on proving that mission software can be rapidly ported between platforms, creating what the Air Force describes as a…
I hope everyone is having a nice weekend so far, and happy Valentine’s Day to those who celebrate (and a happy Singles Awareness Day in advance to those who don’t). I’m in the middle of a review trip, so stay tuned for more live updates, as I’m doing a lot of flying in a short period of time. On the points & travel front, this week Air Canada ordered the Airbus A350-1000, Southwest announced plans to introduce free Starlink Wi-Fi, Frontier revealed it would shrink its fleet by dozens of planes, El Paso Airport mysteriously closed for 10 days only…
Malaysia Airlines offers what’s possibly the most unnecessary yet simultaneously lovely ground service to its premium passengers. I can’t make sense of why it’s offered, but I’m certainly not complaining! Let me first share some background, and then I’ll talk about my experience. Malaysia Airlines offers private terminal transfers In early 2024, Malaysia Airlines introduced a private transfer service between the main terminal building and the satellite building at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL). This service operates 24/7, and is available to all Malaysia Airlines business class passengers, as well as Enrich Platinum members (though not those with oneworld Emerald…
VFR-On-Top ATC authorization for an IFR aircraft to operate in VFR conditions at any appropriate VFR altitude (as specified in 14 CFR and as restricted by ATC). A pilot receiving this authorization must comply with the VFR visibility, distance from cloud criteria, and the minimum IFR altitudes specified in 14 CFR part 91. The use of this term does not relieve controllers of their responsibility to separate aircraft in Class B and Class C airspace or TRSAs as required by FAA Order JO 7110.65.
Shortly After Takeoff From Runway 34, The Airplane Experienced A Loss Of Engine Power On January 31, 2026, about 1921 Alaska standard time, a Piper PA-22-150 airplane, N3263Z, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Anchorage, Alaska. The pilot was uninjured, and the passenger was transported to the hospital with potentially serious injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. According to the pilot, earlier in the evening, he and the passenger departed Kenai Municipal Airport (ENA), Kenai, for a personal flight to Merrill Field Airport (MRI),…

Harnagel said they were approached by the Walt Disney…

Hello from Malaysia, as I just flew Malaysia Airlines’ Airbus A330-900neo business class on the 7hr30min flight from Tokyo Narita (NRT) to Kuala Lumpur (KUL). Let’s be honest, historically Malaysia Airlines has not been regarded as a top tier carrier in Asia, though the airline has been trying to make some improvements, including investing in its fleet. I was looking forward to flying the carrier’s newest long haul aircraft, and seeing what the product is like. While there were still some areas for improvement, I walked away with a very favorable impression — the cabin was comfortable, the amenities were…
