The new EC-2 Stand-Off Jammer aircraft, based on the Kawasaki C-2 transport aircraft, will replace the unique EC-1 which has been in service since 1986. The latest in a number of Japanese aircraft with unusual modifications, the EC-2 Stand-Off Jammer (SOJ), just broke cover. The aircraft, which has been in development since 2021, has been spotted at Gifu Air Base. The photo you can see as the cover of this article was captured on Feb. 17, 2026, by Mel Amahashi (@CirqueduCiel), which kindly allowed us to use it. The aircraft was caught at a distance in the background of a…

A freshly repainted C-32A shows off the livery redesign long favored by President Donald Trump, which is also due to appear on the next generation of Presidential aircraft. Boeing C-32A 99-0003 was recently noted by aviation enthusiasts flying from Greenville Majors Airport (KGVT), where the fleet undergoes periodic maintenance overhauls and upgrades with L3Harris, in the new paint scheme. It is the first C-32 seen to sport the new colours, which comprise a dark blue underside, red pinstrip, and white upper fuselage. The U.S. flag on the tail has been exchanged for a ‘waving’ variant. Well, it’s nice to see some level of accountability for once, though I think he’ll be just fine (thanks to Todd for flagging this). Tom Pritzker steps down from Hyatt’s board Hyatt has announced that 75-year-old Tom Pritzker, Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors, will retire from his role effective immediately, and will not seek re-election to the Board of Directors at Hyatt’s upcoming Annual Meeting of Stockholders in May. Mark Hoplamazian, Hyatt’s President & CEO, will become Chairman of the Board effective immediately. Pritzker has served in his current role since 2004, though has served in senior roles…
The deployment of F-22s towards the Middle East has been considered by many to be one of the final pieces of the puzzle regarding U.S. preparations for potential offensive action against Iran. The Langley Air Force Base (AFB) jets landed at the UK base shortly before 1830 UTC, with their arrival well documented by local planespotters, many of whom had been waiting at the fenceline all day to catch a glimpse of the F-22s. Many thanks to Gustavs Gailitis (@gustavs_g_photography), who was among them, for allowing us to use his images of the jets’ post-sunset appearance. The deployment of F-22s towards…
Hyatt has announced plans to open a new ski resort, and it’ll be an Andaz… surprisingly? Andaz’s first mountain resort coming to Deer Valley(ish) Hyatt has signed an agreement to open the Andaz Heber Valley, which will mark the first mountain and ski resort for the Andaz brand. The hotel is supposed to open in January 2029, which seems rather exact, given that properties almost never open on-time (though clearly the goal is for it to open at the beginning of the 2029 ski season). For context, Heber Valley is located between Sundance Resort and Park City, so it’s easily…
Since 2024, we’ve seen Alaska’s Atmos Rewards program (previously known as Mileage Plan) offer a quarterly promotion for discounted award travel, with significant savings (often up to 60%). Emirates is a fascinating airline. By many metrics, I’d argue it’s the word’s most successful airline, not just in the way that it turns a direct profit, but also in the way that it has put Dubai on the map, and has made it a global destination. While Emirates is regarded as one of the world’s best airlines, the reality is that the carrier invests selectively (and smartly, I’d argue). The company is good at creating halo effects with certain features (like the A380 onboard shower and bar), and then offering a subpar product in other areas (like the airline is…
A classic flying boat that first flew in the late 1940s may be headed back into production. Amphibian Aerospace Industries (AAI) of Brisbane, Australia, and India’s Apogee Aerospace announced a deal for 15 “Albatross 2.0” amphibious aircraft, a modernized version of the original Grumman HU-16 Albatross that could see duty in the future in maritime patrol, paramilitary, search-and-rescue, and commercial roles. The agreement carries a reported value of about $420 million and includes plans to establish manufacturing, maintenance, and systems integration capability in India, the companies said. The original HU-16 rolled off Grumman production lines on Long Island near New York City between 1947 and 1961. The US…
