Admittedly expansion by a Gulf carrier isn’t exactly front of mind at the moment, as the airlines struggle to operate due to attacks by Iran. But still, airlines are making long term plans, and there’s an interesting development, on that front. Etihad greatly expands Abu Dhabi to Chicago flightsEtihad Airways has been flying to Chicago since 2009, and has generally operated once daily service. Along those lines, there’s an interesting update. As of June 15, 2026, Etihad plans to double service, and have twice daily flights between Abu Dhabi (AUH) and Chicago (ORD). The 7,276-mile flight will operate with the…

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend so far (other than everything going on in the world). I’m currently on my first cruise in over 20 years, and that wraps up tomorrow, so I’ll share my thoughts once off. I understand the airline and hotel industry like the back of my hand, so it’s super fun to learn about something new, because I feel like such a newbie. On the points & travel front, it was a relatively quiet week, aside from how the chaos in the Middle East has impacted airline operations across the globe, from Gulf carriers…
“A brief system outage has been resolved and we have resumed operations…” Source: Part of the short reason given when the FAA briefly grounded all JetBlue flights early Tuesday morning at the airline’s request, according to an advisory. The nationwide ground stop, which applied to all destinations and facilities, was in effect from 12:35 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. ET, the FAA advisory shows. The airline did not provide further information. JetBlue, which was founded more than 25 years ago, has its headquarters in New York City and its flagship terminal at the city’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
(Instructor) Chose To Land In The Hudson River Close To The Western Shore, At The Area With The Most Lighting On March 2, 2026, at 1910 eastern standard time, a Cessna 172N, N1560E, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Newberg, New York. The flight instructor and student pilot incurred minor injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 instructional flight. The flight instructor reported that, after performing a touch-and-go landing at New York Stewart International Airport (SWF), the engine was not producing the normal rpm. When he leaned…
Precision Approach Radar Radar equipment in some ATC facilities operated by the FAA and/or the military services at joint-use civil/military locations and separate military installations to detect and display azimuth, elevation, and range of aircraft on the final approach course to a runway. This equipment may be used to monitor certain nonradar approaches, but is primarily used to conduct a precision instrument approach (PAR) wherein the controller issues guidance instructions to the pilot based on the aircraft’s position in relation to the final approach course (azimuth), the glidepath (elevation), and the distance (range) from the touchdown point on the runway…

Preferred IFR Routes Routes established between busier airports to increase system efficiency and capacity. They normally extend through one or more ARTCC areas and are designed to achieve balanced traffic flows among high density terminals. IFR clearances are issued on the basis of these routes except when severe weather avoidance procedures or other factors dictate otherwise. Preferred IFR Routes are listed in the Chart Supplement U.S., and are also available at https://www.fly.faa.gov/rmt/nfdc_preferred_routes_database.jsp. If a flight is planned to or from an area having such routes but the departure or arrival point is not listed in the Chart Supplement U.S., pilots…
The Belgian Air Force has been testing the FZ275 laser-guided rocket and APKWS II on its F-16s to effectively counter the evolving threat of cheap attack drones. A Belgian Air Force F-16AM was spotted while flying with six seven-round LAU-131A/A rocket pods installed on Triple Ejector Racks (TER). The aircraft is being used to test domestically-made 2.75 inch/70 mm FZ275 Laser-Guided Rockets (LGR) as part of trials, underway since the beginning of this year, for the employment against low-cost attack drones. The FZ275 was jointly developed by Forges de Zeebrugge (FZ) and Thales, and is considered a counterpart to the…
Instead of decommissioning this year, Breaking Defense reports that the U.S. Navy’s oldest commissioned aircraft carrier will now officially remain in service until at least March 2027. The change of plans, which was relayed to Breaking Defense by a U.S. Navy official, will theoretically align the USS Nimitz’s (CVN-68) official decommissioning date with the planned commissioning of the Gerald R. Ford class aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy (CVN-79). Originally, the Nimitz was due to decommission in May 2026. This will maintain the U.S. Navy’s on-paper fleet of aircraft carriers at the current 11 ships, which is the mandated minimum amount…
