In 2015, not a single major forwarder or carrier offered instant online quotes. Fast forward to 2025, and the Freightos State of Online Freight Report reveals a radically changed landscape: 50% of top 20 forwarders now offer instant online quotes 4 of the 5 largest ocean carriers do the same 2/3 of all LSPs surveyed offer some form of instant quoting But while enterprise players roll out digital quoting at scale, it’s SMB forwarders who may stand to gain the most. That’s because in a sector where relationship-building still trumps pure automation, smart tools that streamline quoting without removing the…

Several of Boeing’s production sites have their roots in World War II factories making Bombers for the war effort. Each has built new production lines and modernized them over time. Figure 1. Material fatigue is a concern in aviation safety. Airplanes are exposed to significant mechanical stress during flight. Over time, this can lead to material fatigue that jeopardizes the airplane’s structural integrity. For a better understanding of material fatigue in aviation, keep reading. Overview of Material Fatigue Also known as metal fatigue, material fatigue is a phenomenon that involves the gradual weakening of a material due to repeated stress. It often involves the formation of hairline or microscopic cracks. Repeated stress over a prolonged period can cause small cracks to form at points of concentrated stress. Material fatigue isn’t the same…
This year’s Ramp Inspection Forum, organised by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) together with Eurocontrol, is planned to take place at the Eurocontrol premises in Brussels on 28 October 2025. The forum presents the opportunity for industry representatives to engage with the inspecting authorities, Eurocontrol and EASA concerning the EU Ramp (SAFA/SACA) Inspection Programme. Discussions and exchanges on best practices and current developments will take place to facilitate a common interpretation for all stakeholders. Southwest Airlines has long relied on a famously simple business mode: one aircraft type, the Boeing 737, and one focus, the low-cost US domestic market. Over the decades, this successful strategy has made Southwest the number one budget airline in the world and created a template for imitators everywhere to follow. But hints from recent regulatory filings and public remarks by leadership suggest that Southwest may be preparing to stretch beyond its traditional boundaries into Europe by adding an entirely different aircraft type to its fleet. The question is whether Southwest is really ready to cross the Atlantic — and…
We’re not sending people to the moon. – Something I found myself repeating more than once at ACFI 2025 At this year’s Air Cargo Forum India, where some of the sharpest minds in logistics gathered, I had the opportunity to join a panel titled ‘Defining Your Digital Transformation Journey.‘ And if there was one message I wanted to drive home, it was this: digital transformation doesn’t have to be high-stakes rocket science. It just has to be real. This panel wasn’t about hype – it was about getting our industry to move. Here’s what made the conversation resonate, and why…
Cathay Cargo has become the first carrier to use the Air-Land Fresh Lane, an initiative that allows perishable shipments flown to Hong Kong to be trucked into the Greater Bay Area under the same air waybill. The Air-Land Fresh Lane aims to deliver fruit, and live and chilled seafood from Hong Kong Airport (HKG) into […] source
By Bjorn Fehrm and Henry Tam September 12, 2025, ©. Leeham News: We do a series about ideas on how the long development times for large airliners can be shortened. New project talks about cutting development time and reaching certification and production faster than previous projects.. The series will discuss the typical development cycles for an FAA Part 25 aircraft, called a transport category aircraft, and what different ideas there are to reduce the development times. We will use the Gantt plan in Figure 1 as a base for our discussions. Figure 1. A generic new Part 25 airliner development…
Reports indicated the PLA Air Force is converting its older J-6, J-7 and J-8 jets into UAVs and UCAVs to be used from airfields in the Taiwan Strait. In the run up to the Changchun Air Show in northeastern China this week, the first image of a legacy PLA Air Force Cold War-era J-6 jet converted into a UAV/UCAV has appeared. This confirms a long-held assessment and belief that the PLA would use the older J-6, J-7 and J-8 jets as attritable unmanned platforms for a variety of decoy and swarming roles – or both – in a Taiwan invasion.…
