When it comes to widebody aircraft, Boeing and Airbus dominate the market, with twin-aisle planes manufactured the former planemaker set to 138,145 flights this October. According to scheduling data made available by Cirium, an aviation analytics company, this represents a year-on-year increase of 0.7%. Interestingly, however, the number of available seat miles on flights scheduled to be operated by Boeing widebodies this October has grown by a larger margin of 3.5% compared to the same month in the previous year, suggesting that they are being used on longer routes. Something else that has changed year-on-year is the aircraft type operating…
The V-22 Osprey tiltrotor continues to play a key role in US military operations, for everything from inserting Marines and special operations forces into combat zones to delivering critical Navy cargo to aircraft carriers. But the V-22 has also been plagued by serious safety concerns that have led to several fatal mishaps, fleetwide operational restrictions, and renewed congressional scrutiny, as outlined in a new report from the US Congressional Research Service. The report notes that as of September 2025, 65 people have died in Osprey mishaps, including 35 since the aircraft entered service in 2007. Four fatal crashes since 2022 have killed…
MILAN — Denmark is exploring the possibility of buying the U.S.-made Poseidon-8 maritime patrol aircraft to bolster its surveillance over the Arctic region, the Danish defense minister has said.In an interview with Danish broadcaster TV2, Troels Lund Poulsen stated that the country could buy “a fleet” of Boeing planes, an acquisition estimated to be worth billions of dollars.“I would prefer that we collaborate with other NATO countries to get the most value for our money and to have a greater degree of flexibility – but if that proves impossible, I am also willing to accept that we will have to…
Talks with Lockheed Martin to upgrade Greece’s 38 F-16C/D Block 50s remain stalled, while new jets won’t arrive before 2031 and will need upkeep soon after. Reports from Greece have again emerged saying the country might go for an additional order of F-35A Lightning II stealth fighters, in addition to the 20 it signed on for in 2024. This is because of the “slow” pace of the five-year-long negotiations with Lockheed Martin for the upgrade of its 38 F-16C/D Block 50 fighters, in service since 1997. The upgrade might not happen before the end of the decade (possibly 2031-32), and…
The Aviation Non-CO2 Expert Network (ANCEN) was established in 2024 to facilitate a coordinated approach across a wide range of relevant stakeholders (e.g. scientific community, academia, aircraft manufacturers, aircraft operators, fuel producers, air navigation service providers (ANSPs), non-governmental organisations (NGOs), regulators, analysts, and policymakers) in order to provide objective, timely, common, and credible technical advice. The ANCEN members will gather at the premises of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in Cologne for the Annual Plenary Meeting of the Network, to review the progress during the first year of activity and agree on the Work Programme for Year 2.…
