Cathay Pacific has decided to increase its operation between Hong Kong International Airport and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport barely a year after the route began. The carrier increased its service from four to seven weekly during the winter period. In other words, its Airbus A350-1000s will visit Dallas every day, reflecting strong demand for the new service. It is unusual for routes to perform exceptionally well during their first few months, as the market slowly becomes aware of the carrier’s presence on the sector. However, information from the US Department of Transportation demonstrates that loads have been sky-high since the…

This year marks the 22nd anniversary of the first flight of the Boeing 777-300ER, one of the most successful widebody airliners in the manufacturer’s portfolio. Boeing introduced the 777 program in the 1990s to bridge the gap between the twin-engined 767 and quad-engined 747, while also replacing aging DC-10 and L-1011 trijets. Over the years, it developed several variants, including the initial -200, the longer-range 777-200ER, and the stretched -300. Later, in the early 2000s, Boeing launched the 777-300ER as the largest and longest-range member of the family. Since entering service, it has become the most successful 777 variant and…

The Lockheed C-5 Galaxy was, in a way, a widebody aircraft before widebodies became prevalent. No, it doesn’t feature two passenger aisles side by side, as it was primarily intended to carry machines of war, not businessmen or families. However, this enormous aircraft was larger than almost any aircraft that came before or after it (including the Boeing 747), and it took its maiden flight before the 747 (though the 747 beat it into regular service). As this was one of the first aircraft to be developed in this size class (and the USAF’s first plane of this size), it…

German leisure airline Condor has announced the timetable that will see the carrier phase out its Boeing 757 operations by the end of 2025. The final scheduled flights of the type have already been scheduled for early November, with a special farewell trip already being planned for aviation enthusiasts. For around 30 years, the pencil-like shape of the Boeing 757 has formed the backbone of Condor’s short and medium-haul fleet. According to ch-aviation, the airline has operated 18 Boeing 757-200s and nine of the longer 757-300s during that time. However, with just six 757-300s left in regular service, the days…

Icelandair recently confirmed that it will end flights to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport in early 2026. It cited unprofitable operations and increased competition as the main reasons for the withdrawal. This will make it the latest foreign carrier to step back from Detroit after only a few years of service. Every year, the airport handles substantial domestic traffic and supports large operations from US carriers such as Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and Southwest Airlines. At the same time, over the years, it has attracted a mix of international airlines aiming to serve the region’s business and leisure markets.…

Chicago-based United Airlines is getting closer to deciding what to do about its longstanding order for the Airbus A350. With the carrier saying it is to decide about Boeing 777 retirement by the end of 2025, even the company’s CEO, Scott Kirby, is talking about finalizing its plans for the European-built widebody. United Airlines originally placed a firm order for 25 Airbus A350-900s in 2009. That commitment then changed to 35 A350-1000s in 2013, and later to 45 A350-900s in 2017. Despite these several deferrals, the type remains on United’s books but with first deliveries not expected until well into…

The transatlantic corridor remains one of the busiest and most competitive markets in global aviation. Routes linking major US cities with European gateways consistently see high demand and rank among the world’s most heavily traveled long-haul services. Just a few years ago, this market was severely impacted by COVID-19 travel restrictions, with many routes temporarily suspended. Once restrictions lifted, however, airlines rapidly restored capacity, and growth has since continued beyond recovery levels. Compared to 2015, transatlantic flights from Europe to the US have grown by more than 30%. Even against pre-pandemic 2019 figures, current numbers are up around 13%. This…
