China has shown for the first time its newest naval aircraft launching and recovering aboard the catapult-equipped Fujian carrier. The PLA (People’s Liberation Army) Navy’s CNS Fujian (CV-18) carrier, an EMALS (Electro-Magnetic Launch System) configured flattop, attained a major milestone on Sep. 22, 2025. The service released images of its carrier-based CATOBAR (Catapult Assisted TakeOff But Arrested Recovery) aircraft – the J-35, the J-15T and the KJ-600 AEW&C – “successfully completing take-off and landing trials on the flight deck.” More than one aircraft of each type were launched and recovered, the full nearly nine minute-long official footage shows. The flattop,…
Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) will shut down all passenger flights for 36 hours from the evening of September 23, 2025, until September 25, 2025, as the city prepares for the arrival of ‘super typhoon’ Ragasa. The unprecedented 36-hour shutdown is the longest in HKIA’s recent history, surpassing the 20-hour and 13-hour closures for previous typhoons in recent years. The airport’s home-based airline, Cathay Pacific, has said it will be forced to cancel over 500 flights during this period as a result of the typhoon, with tens of thousands of passengers due to be affected by the stoppage. Super Typhoon…

Russia is calling on the International Civil Aviation Organization ( ICAO) to lift sanctions on spare parts and overflights, citing safety concerns. The plea comes ahead of the 42nd ICAO Assembly in Montréal, Canada. Russia is dismissing a largely global response to the war in Ukraine, saying that “unlawful coercive measures” violate people’s right to free movement. Since the start of the war in Ukraine in 2022, Russia has been left without direct access to Western-made parts to support the country’s Airbus and Boeing fleets. As such, Russian carriers have been forced to find creative ways to import spare parts.…
U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff General David Allvin announced on Sept. 22, 2025 that Boeing had begun the manufacturing process for the first production F-47, with a goal of seeing it airborne by 2028. Speaking at the annual Air, Space and Cyber Conference, hosted by the Air & Space Forces Association, Allvin said “In the few short months since we made the announcement, they [Boeing] are already beginning to manufacture the first article.” He further added: “I’ve got to tell you, team, it’s almost 2026. The team is committed to getting the first one flying in 2028.” This major…

It’s a fascinating time for Alaska Air Group, given the merger between Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines. We know that a lot is changing, including turning Seattle into a global hub, using a fleet of Boeing 787s. In late 2024, we learned about some major changes coming to Alaska’s airport lounge network. I’d like to provide an update, as some more details have been announced since then, with the latest updates being about the new lounge in San Diego. Upcoming Alaska & Hawaiian lounge openings Alaska Air Group intends to open new lounges in Honolulu (HNL), San Diego (SAN), and…
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is often praised as a game-changer in commercial aviation: lower fuel consumption, longer nonstop routes, and greater flexibility for airlines. In an era of rising fuel costs, environmental pressure, and passenger expectations, the 787 stands out as a benchmark. In this article, we’ll unpack exactly what design, technology, and operational decisions make the 787 so efficient and versatile, and how that translates into real-world benefits for carriers and travelers. When Boeing launched the Dreamliner program, its goal wasn’t just to build a newer widebody but to reimagine what a modern, long-range, medium-capacity aircraft could do. The…
Vietnamese low-cost carrier Vietjet has received its first Boeing 737-8 aircraft from an order of 200 Boeing jets worth US$32 billion, making it the airline’s first non-Airbus aircraft in its fleet. The ceremony took place at Boeing’s facility in Seattle, Washington, and was attended by Vietnam’s President Luong Cuong, senior officials from both countries, and key business partners, the airline announced in a statement on September 21, 2025. “The first Boeing aircraft received under this historic order is the result of nearly a decade of partnership between Boeing and Vietjet,” Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Chairwoman of Vietjet said during…
