Air India has opened an investigation after an Airbus A320neo operating from Bengaluru to Delhi experienced an engine fire on May 21, 2026.
The airline confirmed an incident involving flight AI2802 and said the aircraft landed safely. All passengers and crew were safe, Air India said in a statement.
“We are currently gathering additional information and are working closely with the relevant authorities,” the airline said.
Indian media reported that the cockpit crew received an engine fire warning during final approach to Delhi, prompting the crew to declare an emergency before the aircraft landed safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The aircraft was an Airbus A320neo, according to flight-tracking data.
The aircraft was identified as VT-CIO, an Airbus A320-251N powered by CFM International LEAP-1A engines.
Air India did not provide details in its public statement about the aircraft type, engine involved, passenger count, or possible cause of the incident.
The flight landed safely in Delhi, and passengers and crew disembarked normally, according to the airline and Indian media reports.
The incident comes as Air India continues a broad fleet and operational overhaul under Tata Group ownership. The airline is adding new aircraft, refurbishing older jets and working to improve reliability across domestic and international operations.
Air India said further updates will be shared as more details become available.
