“The aviation security work to eliminate current flight deck vulnerability has been needlessly prolonged for way too long. We must not continue to delay this work and allow more time for another catastrophic incident to happen before the FAA and airlines act.” Source: Captain Steve Jangelis, Aviation Safety Chair of the Air Line Pilots Association, commenting on the FAA’s much-anticipated secondary cockpit barrier rule and why it is running into the same problem again: manufacturers aren’t ready, and airlines are asking for more time. This time, it’s JetBlue Airways formally requesting a one-year extension, pushing the deadline from July 31, 2026, to July 31, 2027.
