Pilot: “Tower, 5752 confirm—cleared to land 4?” JFK Tower: “That’s… uh, who?” Pilot: Brickyard 5752. (Brickyard is the call sign for Republic Airlines.) At this point, LaGuardia Tower attempts to contact the flight, which doesn’t answer. JFK Tower: Brickyard 5752. I’m sorry, where are you? Pilot: Two-mile final, Brickyard 5752. JFK Tower: Two-mile final where? Pilot: Runway 4. JFK Tower: At LaGuardia? Pilot: Yes ma’am. JFK Tower: This is Kennedy Tower, please, go to LaGuardia Tower. Pilot: Oh my goodness. Alright. Unknown pilot on frequency: That’s crazy. The plane, operated by Republic Airways, then switched to LaGuardia tower, roughly 10 miles away. LaGuardia Tower: Brickyard 5752. Pilot: Yeah, 5752, we’re going around. Source: Data communicated while A Delta Connection flight was minutes away from landing at LaGuardia airport March 15 when the pilot learned he was mistakenly speaking to the tower at JFK airport instead.
