Wizz Air to test inflight connectivity, digital cabin with Immfly and gateretail

Wizz Air has signed an agreement with Barcelona-based inflight digital services firm Immfly and its partner onboard retail provider gateretail to digitalize the cabin of its aircraft.

With this initiative, announced on March 25, 2026, the European low-cost airline will make it possible for passengers to access a whole range of services through their own portable electronic devices.

The project will have two major components. The first, which will be rolled out across the entire Wizz Air fleet, will involve fitting the cabin of the aircraft with Bluetooth-enabled in-seat ordering technology. This capability, which does not require a live internet connection, will allow passengers to place orders for catering and retail items directly from their seats.

The second part of the project will be a more limited six-month Proof of Concept program to test inflight internet connectivity using Immfly’s Equilux hardware and access to Iridium’s satellite constellation.

With this additional capability, Wizz Air’s passengers will not only be able to access the in-seat ordering functionalities, but also use messaging apps in flight, live maps and other functions that are dependent on internet access.

The airline also expects to derive some operational benefits from the deployment of this integrated platform, such as being able to handle live credit card payments, reducing the amount of rejected payments due to delayed verification. It will also improve coordination between the cockpit and the ground through the sharing of operational data in real time.
