At the Singapore Airshow 2026, Japan Airlines (JAL) has made a deal with Boeing to enhance the interiors and in-flight connectivity of its 787 Dreamliners – 11 in total.
On February 5, 2026, Boeing announced in a statement that they will carry out the upgrades, which will introduce JAL’s latest cabin interior design to existing 787-9s in the JAL international fleet. This will align them with the design and configuration of JAL’s upcoming new 787-9 aircraft deliveries.
“This program is about more than new seats and upgraded in-flight connectivity, it’s about delivering a consistent, modern experience every time a passenger flies on a JAL 787-9,” said Lindsey Douglas, Vice President of Cabin, Modifications, Maintenance & Digital Services for Boeing Global Services at Boeing Global Services.
The manufacturer says that the connectivity modifications will allow the planes to link with newer enhanced low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite networks, offering higher bandwidth and lower latency for faster and more reliable in-flight connectivity for both passengers and crew.
According to Boeing, it will supply part kits and engineering assistance for the interior upgrades, which will feature new seats, cabin furniture, and other updated design elements.
Additionally, the manufacturer has said that it will provide the necessary provisions and additional parts for the upgraded in-flight connectivity system.
“This interior refresh reinforces JAL’s commitment to consistently delivering a differentiated, premium experience on our core international routes,” said Kyohei Takizawa, Vice President of Procurement for JAL.
Takizawa also noted that this approach ensures that passengers enjoy a “seamless, best-in-class onboard experience whether they are on a newly delivered airplane or an upgraded one.”
