Vietjet completes 22-aircraft delivery in largest fleet expansion to date

Vietnamese budget carrier Vietjet is closing off 2025 with a significant fleet expansion as it gears up to take delivery of 22 new aircraft before the year’s end.

The airline will receive its latest addition this Christmas, an Airbus A321neo ACF registered as VN-A580, as part of the largest fleet expansion in Vietjet’s history. The 22 aircraft represent a substantial addition during a period when global aircraft shortages and supply chain disruptions have affected delivery schedules across the industry.

Fleet distribution

The incoming aircraft will be distributed across Vietjet’s operations: nine Boeing aircraft for Vietjet Thailand, seven next-generation Airbus jets for the Vietnam based fleet, four wet lease aircraft for peak travel periods, and two COMAC aircraft for Con Dao routes.

The announcement came after BBN Airlines Thailand announced that it is launching its ACMI operations with Vietjet Thailand as its first partner.

The expansion comes ahead of Lunar New Year 2026, when travel demand typically increases. Vietjet plans to use the additional capacity to serve this seasonal demand while expanding its international network.

The aircraft deliveries occur as airlines worldwide face shortages and manufacturers battle to meet delivery schedules. The ability to receive 22 aircraft within one month reflects Vietjet’s financial position and standing with manufacturers and lessors.

Fleet modernization

The expansion includes fuel efficient, modern aircraft types and the fleet growth positions Vietjet among the larger carriers in Southeast Asia. The airline, which launched just over a decade ago, now operates a fleet size comparable to that of more established carriers in the region.

The additional aircraft will serve both domestic Vietnamese routes and international connections across the Asia Pacific region. The expansion aligns with continued travel demand growth in Asia following the pandemic recovery period.

The fleet addition represents Vietjet’s current growth strategy as the airline expands its presence in the regional aviation market.
