Air Algérie has taken delivery of its first Airbus A330-900neo, marking a significant milestone in the modernisation of the African carrier’s long-haul fleet and in its long-standing partnership with Airbus. The A330-900 has been lined up by the airline to play a key role in Air Algérie’s expansion plans from its hub at Algiers-Houari Boumediene Airport (ALG), thereby enabling the launch of new transatlantic and Asian routes.

Air Algérie is set to receive seven additional A330neo wide-bodied aircraft and in doing so, will become the largest operator of the aircraft type on the continent of Africa. According to the carrier, the A330neo will bring new levels of performance, economics, and passenger comfort. Air Algérie’s new A330neo is configured in a comfortable three-class cabin layout with 18 full-flat seats in business class, 24 in premium economy, and 266 seats in Economy class.

“The A330neo features the award-winning Airspace cabin, which offers passengers a unique experience, high level of comfort, ambience, and design,” added an Airbus statement. “This includes more individual space, enlarged overhead bins, a new lighting system, and access to the latest in-flight entertainment and connectivity systems.”

In addition to the new aircraft arriving in the company’s fleet, Air Algérie will position itself as a centre of excellence for the A330neo, supported by the development of its maintenance and repair capabilities and the establishment of a maintenance training center.

According to ch-aviation, Air Algérie operates a mixed fleet of Boeing and Airbus aircraft. The carrier has three A320s and two A330-200s from Airbus, while the balance of its fleet comprises five aging Boeing 737-600s, two 737-700Cs, plus 24 737-800s. Its regional arm operates 15 ATR72-500s and -600s. The airline currently operates on 203 routes, serving 81 destinations across 30 countries.

At the end of October 2025, the Airbus A330 family had won over 1,900 firm orders from more than 130 customers worldwide. As with all Airbus aircraft, the A330neo aircraft is already able to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Airbus is targeting to have its aircraft running entirely on SAF by 2030.
