Jetstar announced it is launching its largest expansion at Melbourne Avalon Airport (AVV), adding its first international flights out of the airport to Bali, resuming service to Adelaide, and increasing frequencies to Brisbane.
The low-cost carrier said that the expansion will add more than 330,000 low-fare seats annually at AVV Airport, which is Melbourne’s second airport. The move will also provide more travel options for local passengers while bringing additional tourists to Victoria.
The Bali route marks Jetstar’s first international service from Melbourne Avalon, a milestone for the airport’s largest carrier.
Starting March 23, 2026, Jetstar will operate five weekly round-trip flights between Melbourne Avalon and Bali Denpasar Airport (DPS) using the carrier’s Airbus A321LR fleet.
The service will provide over 120,000 seats annually to one of Australia’s most popular overseas destinations.
Flight time is just over six hours, offering convenient access to Bali’s beaches and cultural attractions for travelers from Melbourne, Geelong, the Surf Coast, and Bellarine Peninsula.

The route becomes Jetstar’s 11th direct Australian service to the Indonesian island, following recent launches from Sunshine Coast, Newcastle, and Gold Coast.
Jetstar will also Melbourne Avalon to Adelaide Airport (ADL) service on March 26, 2026, with up to seven weekly round-trip flights. The route will offer up to 109,000 seats annually, reconnecting the two cities after a service gap.
The airline will also add up to five weekly flights to Brisbane, increasing annual capacity by approximately 107,000 seats between Melbourne Avalon and Queensland’s capital.
Jetstar CEO Stephanie Tully described the expansion as a significant investment in Melbourne Avalon Airport.
“This is a massive step forward for Jetstar at Melbourne Avalon Airport. We’re launching two new routes and adding more seat capacity than ever before,” Tully said.
“Whether it’s a family holiday in Bali or a weekend away in Adelaide or Brisbane, these services give Victorians even more options to take off more, for less. This investment will see thousands more customers fly through Melbourne’s second airport gateway, supporting the economic growth of Melbourne, Geelong, the Surf Coast and the Bellarine Peninsula.”
Melbourne Avalon Airport, located approximately 55 kilometers southwest of Melbourne’s central business district, serves as an alternative to Melbourne’s main Tullamarine Airport (MEL). The airport has primarily handled domestic traffic, making the Bali route a significant development in its evolution as a regional gateway.
The expansion reflects continued demand for budget travel options from Melbourne’s western suburbs and regional Victoria.
