Parent company of GOL and Avianca sets up new airline in Chile

Abra Group, the UK-registered parent company of Avianca and GOL, two of Latin America’s largest airlines, has set up a new airline in Chile, according to reports from a number of local media outlets.

Rumors about this move first circulated after a picture of a GOL Boeing 737-800 with a Chilean registration (CC-DNU) and the line “Operated by NG Servicios Aéreos” appeared on some online channels on October 13, 2025.

Chilean aviation news site El Aereo reported that a firm with this name had been incorporated by Abra Group in Santiago de Chile on July 2, 2025, with the apparent intent to engage in air transportation activities.

Another news outlet in the region, Aviación Online, later stated that Abra Group had confirmed its intention to set up a new airline in Chile and had applied for an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) in Chile. The new carrier will reportedly focus on charter and ACMI operations for the time being.

At the time of writing it is not known whether more aircraft are expected to join the fleet of this new Chilean airline.

Interestingly, Abra Group is already present in the Chilean market through its 40% equity stake in SKY Airline, the country’s second largest airline.

Analysts have noted that the creation of a new Chilean subsidiary may form part of Abra Group’s strategic approach to expand its ownership position and ultimately gain complete control of the airline. Abra Group has reportedly sought to increase its stake in SKY Airline by converting into equity a US$100 million loan made to the Chilean carrier in 2021, and which matures in October 2026.
