Heathrow Airport sees busiest September ever, rounds off record-breaking summer

London-Heathrow Airport (LHR) has reported its busiest ever September, rounding off what it describes as a “record-breaking summer”.

On October 13, 2025, Heathrow declared that it had welcomed 7.4 million passengers during September 2025, a “clear sign that the airport is the UK’s hub for global travel”.

The record-breaking month was achieved despite the Collins Aerospace IT issue that triggered long queues, delays and cancellations at some of Europe’s busiest airports.

Heathrow CEO Thomas Woldbye said: “This summer at Heathrow was one to be celebrated. Operating Europe’s largest airport doesn’t come without its challenges, but I’m proud that our team delivered under pressure — welcoming nearly 7.4 million passengers in September alone while maintaining strong performance in punctuality and security. We continued to lead the pack in global connectivity, all while keeping the passenger experience smooth for millions.”

He added: “It’s a clear sign that Heathrow is vital to the UK’s economic growth and why we will continue to invest in our airport – opening up even more opportunities for passengers, airlines, and the country.”

Heathrow was recently named the most connected airport in the world for the third consecutive year, according to OAG.

The airport has also claimed itself to be the UK’s largest port by value, having driven over £215 billion ($286 billion) in trade last year.
