Deutsche Aircraft, Vaeridion to partner in battery testing, industrial processes

Deutsche Aircraft and Vaeridion announced on September 23, 2025, that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support each other in the development of their respective sustainable aircraft programs.

While both firms are developing new aircraft types in the Munich, Germany area, each has chosen to focus on a specific market segment and technology.

Deutsche Aircraft is developing the Do328eco, a low-emissions regional turboprop for up to 40 passengers based on the Dornier 328 platform. In turn, Vaeridion is working on a clean-sheet all-electric aircraft for up to nine seats, called Microliner.

Through this new agreement the two companies will share expertise and resources based on their respective core competencies. Deutsche Aircraft will share its expertise in structural design, industrial processes, and testing. Vaeridion’s proprietary battery pack will be tested on Deutsche Aircraft’s flying test bed, a D328 aircraft (registration D-CUPL), which belongs to the German Aerospace Research Center (DLR).

This collaboration will be facilitated by the recent Vaeridion’s recent acquisition of an industrial facility at Oberpfaffenhofen Airport (OBF) near Munich, where Deutsche Aircraft is also based.

On September 8, 2025, Vaeridion announced the takeover and reactivation of premises at Oberpfaffenhofen Airport. The airport was previously occupied by the now bankrupt eVTOL developer, Lilium.

Vaeridion will establish its own advanced battery research and assembly center at the newly acquired facility.

As part of the Lilium liquidation process, Vaeridion also acquired some of the industrial equipment that the failed eVTOL developer had in place for its own electric propulsion program.

During a recent visit to Vaeridion’s headquarters in Munich, Vaeridion’s founder and CEO Ivor van Dartel confirmed to AeroTime that the startup remains on target for its maiden flight to be launched towards the end of 2027, and entry into service towards 2030.
