A Lufthansa Boeing 747-8 is the latest iconic aircraft to feature the airline’s blue 100-year anniversary livery and XXL Crane design following an Airbus A380 makeover in February 2026.

On March 4, 2026, Lufthansa announced that following the new livery upgrade in San Bernardino, California, the Boeing 747-8 would be making its way to its home to Frankfurt.

The Boeing 747-8, registered D-ABYN, is scheduled to arrive back in Germany on March 5, 2026, at around 10:00, before reentering service with its new livery on March 6, 2026, with a flight to Los Angeles.

Included in the special celebratory livery design is the XXL Crane and the lettering ‘1926 | 2026’ and ‘100’.

Known also as the Queen of the Skies, Lufthansa is one of the last commercial airlines in the world to operate the Boeing 747 aircraft.

“The aircraft, christened “Niedersachsen,” is expected to land on the airport’s center runway, clearly visible for spotters, journalists, and fans,” said a Lufthansa spokesperson.

The Lufthansa 747 is now the sixth aircraft to feature the iconic 100 Years special design. An Airbus A380, two A320neos, an A350 and a Boeing 787-9 are already flying with the XXL Crane.

In autumn 2026, an Airbus A350-1000 will receive the special design, completing the anniversary fleet as the seventh and final aircraft.

The German flag carrier also recently unveiled an Airbus A321-200 adorned in a legacy “parable” livery based on Lufthansa’s classic Lockheed Super Star.
