The Citi® / AAdvantage® Globe™ Mastercard® is Citi’s new co-branded American card. While there’s potentially a lot of merit to holding onto this card long term, there’s a particularly good reason to apply right now, which is that the card is offering a big introductory welcome offer. In this post, I’d like to cover all the details, as it’s anyone’s guess how much longer this offer sticks around.

Earn 90K AAdvantage miles with the Citi AAdvantage Globe Card

The Citi AAdvantage Globe Card is offering a welcome bonus of 90,000 AAdvantage bonus miles after spending $5,000 within the first four months. Personally, I value AAdvantage miles at 1.5 cents each, so to me that bonus is worth $1,350. There are some incredible uses of American AAdvantage miles, so you can redeem this for experiences like Etihad’s A380 first class or Qatar Airways’ 777 business class.

Also keep in mind that any spending on the card will qualify for Loyalty Points (helping you earn elite status, including Gold, Platinum, Platinum Pro, or Executive Platinum), though the welcome bonus as such won’t. Upon completing minimum spending, you’d earn a minimum of 5,000 Loyalty Points.

Citi AAdvantage Globe Card eligibility requirements

If you’re interested in applying for the Citi AAdvantage Globe Card, the typical Citi credit card application restrictions apply, including that you can be approved for at most one Citi card every eight days, and at most two Citi cards every 65 days.

On top of that, the bonus isn’t available to those who have received a new account bonus on this exact card in the past 48 months. Fortunately since this card is brand new, virtually everyone should be eligible for it. I’ve already applied for the card, and you can read about my experience getting approved here.

Eligibility is unrelated to having any other American Airlines credit cards, though, whether personal or business. For example, you could have this and the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard® (review), as there’s potentially quite a bit of merit to having both cards.

Why the Citi AAdvantage Globe is worth it

The Citi AAdvantage Globe Card has a $350 annual fee, and offers several perks that can help offset that:

  • A first checked bag free on domestic American Airlines itineraries, plus preferred boarding, for the primary cardmember and up to eight companions on the same reservation
  • Up to 15,000 bonus Loyalty Points per year, thanks to the Flight Streak bonus — earn 5,000 bonus Loyalty Points for every four American segments flown, up to three times per elite year
  • Four Admirals Club passes per year, each valid for lounge access for a period of up to 24 hours
  • A $99 American companion certificate on the account anniversary every year, valid for an economy booking in the lower 48
  • Up to $100 back annually on American inflight purchases, so this can be used toward food and drink purchases, as well as inflight Wi-Fi spending
  • Up to $100 annually in “Splurge Credits,” which can be used for AAdvantage Hotels bookings, Future Personal Training, and Live Nation; registration is required and and exclusions apply
  • Up to $240 back annually on Turo spending, as you can get $30 back per Turo rental, up to eight times per year
  • A Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credit of up to $120 every four years, as reimbursement for the application fee
  • A solid rewards structure, with 6x miles on AAdvantage Hotels bookings, 3x miles on American purchases, 2x miles on restaurants, and 2x miles on select transportation purchases

Earn up to 20,000 Loyalty Points annually with the card

Bottom line

The Citi AAdvantage Globe Card recently launched, and has a huge welcome bonus of 90,000 AAdvantage miles upon completing minimum spending. That bonus is great (I value it at $1,350), and beyond that, it’s a card that many people may be interested in, especially if you’re a relatively frequent flyer on American.

From the basic perks for travel on American (a free checked bag and preferred boarding), to the $99 companion fare, to the up to 15,000 annual bonus Loyalty Points, it’s not too hard to make the math on this card work, in my opinion.

I’ve already picked up this card, and I recommend others consider doing so as well.

Anyone plan to pick up the Citi AAdvantage Globe Card with 90K miles?
